Ted Greene. Not a band player but a teacher and solo guitarist. No one could play like Ted and he could play his old tele and make it sound like a whole band. The world is an emptier place without him.

Not the MOST underrated but because he was not mentioned...

Jerry Garcia - Greatful Dead...

I actually really didn't like the Dead until Youtube came around and I watched what he was doing on the guitar... I really didn't know all the great ideas he was doing... My eyes are better than my ears...

Jagori Tanna is a complete unknown in most circles. He played with I Mother Earth and even though I was not a big fan of their music in general I recognised the man could play the guitar. You'd have to study some of their more obscure songs to know it though because their style and genre did not lend itself to guitar heroics. In the mid 90s when most popular bands were deathly afraid of the guitar solo for fear it might represent some kind of unholy homage to an earlier time Jagori occasionally delved and succeeded admirably where his less talented but more popular peers tucked tail and ran.

In my opinion he is the quintissential underated guitar player.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

John Dwyer deserves a lot more credit

He has a really instinctive style, as opposed to carefully thought out and intentional.

I would put Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues on the list.
I agree with Mike Campbell too!

Terry Jordan of the Flatliners and the Screamin' Armadillos. I miss playing in bands with him.
