I have looked at several different websites each gives me a different answer and fender customer service hasnt answered my emails.

Anyway, i need info on the fender bass VI. particularly the difference between the Bass VI and the fender baritone? I am interested in the Bass VI, but the reissue is way out of my price range?

Some websites (wikipedia for example) say that the Jaguar Baritone is essentially the same? While others dont.

Is this true? Can you tune the baritone E-E an octave below normal tuning? Can you use the Fender Bass VI strings? will they even fit in the nut?

Is there another brand that makes a similar Bass VI that is more in reasonable price range?

My main interest is that i am trying to bridge the gap in my band between guitar and bass, wanting to play the bass part in a more guitar style of playing. But I am not bright enough to be able to transpose from E-E to B-B

The bass 6 is a six string bass with shorter scale neck, a baritone guitar is heavy strings tuned down a whole one to B to B as i know it? please correct me
at least i can tell you that a bass 6 is a bass and not a guitar, however it's great fun to fool around with as it is more like a guitar than the J or P basses, so it might actually suit you needs,
I can't say anything about a barritone tuned E-E an octave lower with bass iv strings and some nut work, maybe the bridge will need to be changed as well, and then it's possibly better just to get a bass iv, but it's a fender so it should be possible in some sort of way

Wikipedia has an excellent article on Baritone guitars, including scale length and tuning. I believe the Bass VI has a 30" scale, while the Jaguar Baritone has a 27" scale. I think it makes a difference, especially with string gauges. I think (and I could be wrong) that there was a Fender Strat Baritone model (and I think it was a hardtail) out a few years ago with a 27" scale. I don't care much of the idea for having a Jazzmaster-type trem on a Bass VI, though, especially with the string tension in mind.

I once had a Danelectro Baritone RI (30" scale) a few years back, it was good for doubling bass lines but a bit muddy for chording like a guitar-but that could've had something to do with the amps I was using as well.

One guitar that I REALLY wish that Fender would reissue is the Tele Bajo Sexto (a Baritone Tele)-basically it was a '52 Tele reissue with a 30" scale, and that one was originally issued about 10 years ago. THAT would REALLY rock!
