I have spent 20 minutes searching for the answer and the closest thing I can find is "portable open database" and for an effects pedal that doesn't make much sense to me.
So, I give.
Anyone?

"P.O.D." is a legal/estate term for "payable on death", and the Christian metal band P.O.D. takes their name from that.

"Portable open database" sort of makes sense for an iPod (the "i" is a carryover from the iMac -- I don't know if it stands for anything).

But I don't think the Line6 POD is meant as an acronym. it's sort of a play on the success of the iPod, and it has the connotation that they had stuffed the processing power of their AxSys and Flextone amps into a little pod you can carry around (as in "seed pod" or "escape pod"), and they just capitalized it so they could trademark it.

pick of destiny

it was last photographed with angus young. the guitar he was using was sold at an auction, it now resides in the rock n roll history museum. thats where the POD is to...

if you plan on braking in there and getting it, count me out. the rock n roll history museum is a inpenatrable fortress, i've already been down there once, and lemme tell you, there no cheese at the end of that rabbit hole...

pod/päd - Noun:
1.An elongated seed vessel of a leguminous plant, splitting open on both sides when ripe.
2.A small herd or school of marine animals, esp. whales.
Verb: (of a plant) Bear or form pods: "the peas have failed to pod".
Synonyms:
Noun, shuck - husk - hull - shell
Verb, shell - hull - husk - shuck
A sampling of possible acronyms:
Point Of Distribution
Publish On Demand
Point Of Deployment (used in the TV cable industry and also synonymous with 'module')
Point Of Discharge
Process On Demand
Pendulum Of Doom (World Of Warcraft)
Post Orgasmic Disgust (related to the act of marriage in older couples)
Programable Option Device

In the common usage of the term with regard to electronic wizardry I believe it means a small device or module harboring rich content not unlike a seed pod.

Or it could be like the marriage one. That's the one that makes the most sense to me. You love your iPod at first but after a while you want to crush it in a vise.

Piece Of Dung ;)

Just kidding of course. I'm pretty sure a good player with a good ear can get a great and/or usable sound out of anything. I've owned my share of Line 6 products and always been able to get something useful out of them... but the I had to at least throw my POD idea in for a laugh

I believe it stands for Play On Demand.

Enjoy!

"POD" is a Line6 trademark, so he's probably referring to the Line6 POD series.
