Definately John Mayer. We chatted about Hendrix for a while, he took a gander at my Voodoo Strat, I asked him about his stash of Hendrix strats and he was modest and didn't tell me anything specific but said that he went through great lengths to get back the only one he's ever sold because he loved it so much. He was pretty funny, extremely down to earth, and I think pretty happy to talk guitars with somebody when the rest of the room was a bunch of giddy girls. Even signed my guitar on the back of the headstock. Definately an awesome experience.

Whether or not you're a Mayer fan, you've got to realize what that feels like, meeting one of your bigger inspirations to play guitar. It was for me what it'd be like for him the first time he ever sat down with Buddy Guy or Clapton.

I have met JM very briefly right after a concert he signed my ticket. I would love to get the chance to sit and talk guitars with him and I would love to get him to sign one of my guitars.

Leonard Rosenman, who just passed away. James Dean's roommate. Scored East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause, The Lord of the Rings, Star Trek IV, and wrote the TV themes to Ben Casey and The Defender, the two best ever written. A sweet, gracious man of staggering talent. I would have said John Williams, but I think the East of Eden score trumps Williams best. Both very nice, and funny, and cool men.

Coolest musician I've ever personally met was this guy named Mark that played a gig at this dive called the Bama Barn in Mobile, AL. His last set ended at 1am and I sat and talked about guitars/music/gigging with him for an hour after that. One of the best musicians I've ever personally seen, on everything from the fiddle to pedal steel to electric guitar. He played a red Strat with maple neck, I think he said it was an '87 American Standard. It was pretty beat up and needed a fret job. He told me he had to sell most of his collection, including a few vintage instruments, after his divorce. All he had left in the way of electric guitars was that old American Standard.

The guys in Cheap Trick are very cool. I mainly talked with Bun E. and Rick, as Robin was hanging with his family and Tom is extremely shy and doesn't say much.

I also got to meet Bo Diddley when I played bass for him at a pickup show but we didn't hang out or talk. Still that was very awesome.

Why ME, who else ????

just kidding !!!!

it would have to be Pine Top Perkins of Muddy waters and Howlin Wolf's band.
He lived in my home town for a few years and I got a chance to run into him several times out fishing and see him perform locally.

the guy is a blues treasure and somone really should take a while and write down his stories before he is no longer with us.

I heard he moved to Texas.

Two of my favorite musicians/friends of mine are Doug Cook, who has been in the Kentucky Headhunters in the past, and solo artist/songwriter for the stars, Judson Spence...

I got to hang out with Zakk Wylde at the Rock and Roll HOF in Cleveland. We watched a lil bit of a clip of Hendrix together. Nick Catanese from Black Label Society also. Even talked to Nick on the phone a few times. Doug Aldrich was super nice too. Probably the quietest and most humble of all was Warren DeMartini. Most recently I had a couple of beers with the guys from Black Stone Cherry at a local show. Alot younger than me but we talked about guitars, gear and music. That is the beauty of music. It bridges all kinds of gaps!

Isn't Izzy Straddlin from Indiana? Didn't he quit G'n'R and move back to there to just chill out? His first solo album was actually pretty good.

Nick Mason - Pink Floyd
Scott Weiland & Robert DeLeo - Stone Temple Pilots
Andrew Fletcher - Depeche Mode

Mason was right place, right time. Floyd('94) in town for a concert and was trying to meet/see anyone. Caught him after soundcheck. About a minute long conversation there, just me marking out to them.
Weiland & DeLeo were "Hey, Aren't you the guy(s) from STP?" chance encounter.
I had no idea who Fletcher was, till he told me. Was using a payphone next to me at a hotel when DM was in town for a concert. We started talking and he asked if I was a DM fan. He hooked me up with some great tickets but never became a real "fan".

It would be a toss up between Burt Cummings (The Guess Who) and a guy named Al Anderson (NRBQ and The Wildweeds). James Taylor and his son, Ben are pretty cool too.

BTW, Happy 60th Birthday James Taylor :!:
