I met Johnny Cash while he guest starred on an episode of "Renegade". I worked ont he show for a few years. He signed a copy of Folsom Prison Blues for me, wishing me luck on my decision to go to audio engineering school. That was awesome.

The coolest - and most highly skilled - musicians I've ever met are people you've never heard of.

like...

and let me re-phrase the topic from "coolest" to "so admirable that you could not believe you were actaully realizing that this person is having a regular old conversation with you about everday life"

Like Rick Brown, sax/flute/clarinet, who can blow off the top of his head in any style from Dixie to Bird, and is still the most humble and intelligent guy you'd ever want to meet...

Or drummer Dave Seyboldt, so musical and focused he could have played with anybody... if Weather Report called, Dave could have handled the gig.

But you mean "who's the most FAMOUS musician you ever met," right?

Well, if you mean just a "hi, how are ya" handshake kinda thing, then I guess George Clinton and Bootsy Collins were the coolest, Jeff Baxter the most skilled, Al Kooper the most notorious..

but if you mean somebody I actually had a conversation about music with, then George Shearing and Dave Brubeck were the nicest and most complete musicians.

I'm always looking to expand my musical horizons... thanks for a list of musicians to check out. The only recording session that I am proud of being a part of is Three Mile Pilot. Those are also some cool and creative guys.. and to see the process of their creation first hand was a pleasure. It's that feeling that I seek from music. I'll definitely check out the musicians that I have not heard of from your post.

thanks

I remember I got to meet Jerry Cantrell from Alice in Chains once. Mike Inez was there too it was right after he joined the band. He was playing with Ozzy before that. There was a signing at a music store somewhere. I think it was in Orange County somewhere I don't remember. They were there for a couple of hours I guess just talking to people and signing stuff. That was around the time Jar of Flies was released. I had only been playing for a little while at that point and that was one of my favorite bands so it was really cool.

Definately John Mayer. We chatted about Hendrix for a while, he took a gander at my Voodoo Strat, I asked him about his stash of Hendrix strats and he was modest and didn't tell me anything specific but said that he went through great lengths to get back the only one he's ever sold because he loved it so much. He was pretty funny, extremely down to earth, and I think pretty happy to talk guitars with somebody when the rest of the room was a bunch of giddy girls. Even signed my guitar on the back of the headstock. Definately an awesome experience.

Whether or not you're a Mayer fan, you've got to realize what that feels like, meeting one of your bigger inspirations to play guitar. It was for me what it'd be like for him the first time he ever sat down with Buddy Guy or Clapton.

I've never met any musicians either. My neck of the woods is the type of place they steer clear from.

Although I have met a couple of actors. Corey Feldman for one, he's not very talkative. And Sonny Shroyer, he lives across town from me, it was only a matter of time before meeting him, haha.

NickDJ - Rick hasn't released a commercial album: he gigs, teaches and does studio dates in my town.

Dave, on the other hand, has his own small record label called Beezwax Records, and has recorded an album of remarkable techno-jazz under the name "Uncle Art." It's weirdly cool.

Hello Nick Dj,

I met George Thorogood, pretty cool and down to earth.
Snakeskin boots and jacket probably cost a few bucks.

Cheers.

Recently that would be Reggie Hamilton ,
I do believe he even has a Fender signature bass with his name on it now.
