ok, so i am able to deduce that 2 of the 5 inputs of the daisy chain do in fact work. i swear i thought i had plugged all 5 bits into stomp boxes and saw that none were working but that seems to have been a mistake.
there's some visible wiring on the 3rd bit. something must be loose or whatever and the signal is lost there rendering it and the next two useless.

also it seems that not all 9 volt adapters are created equal.
i have two single bit 9 volters. both bits on these units seem to fit the pedal inputs, but one of them doesn't work; at least not for stomp boxes, anyway...

anyway it does seem to be an issue with the adapter itself.

thanks for all the replies folks.

OK so it is your splitter after all. Don't be so surprised that you thought all 5 outlets were dead. It's possible they were all dead the last time you checked. Once those things start to go they become erratic. Get a new one and be prepeared to have to get another new one again down the road.

You're right to observe that not all pedal supplies are created equal!

Most are 9 volt, centre negative (on the pedal plug) polarity - such as the standard Boss PSA unit. But there are a few out there that provide the opposite polarity - and a few pedals/gadgets that need that centre positive polarity. Look carefully at whats printed on the power supply label, and whats on the pedal/gadget (look by the ext power socket and/or the pedal instruction manual).

You're absolutely right but I suspect he was referring to the size of the jack and plug. I have some pedals that are 9 volt pin negative but standard adapters don't work because they just don't fit.

the one adapter i have says 9 volt and all the numbers match what i would expect a compatible working adapter to have.
the pin fits. but it don't work with stomp boxes.

cheers

hey there folks,
rather than buy a new adapter unit, is there a way to fix the wiring problem?

the unit i have is the powerall adapter

something like this one http://www.zzounds.com/item--POWPA9B

i'm sure most are familiar with the bits,
you have the wire that has the bits that plug into the pedals
and this wire plugs into the wall unit wire

i need to find a tutorial or something to help me fix the bit that plugs into the pedal
the one has some wiring exposed and i suspect something is simply loose
so the power chain stops there
if i tidy up that one, i should be good

can anyone suggest any references?
