31 years ago today the world lost a man of great intellect and a message of peace and love due to the actions of a mad dillusional outcast with a gun.John Lennon was at a great turning point in his life.He had just released one of the most critically acclaimed albums of his career, was clean and sober and people were in hope that just maybe he'd start playing live again and start writting even more sophisticated music.

John Lennon and George Harrison were/are a huge part of my life and their music and philosophies have guided me through life. What really maddens me is that this man who preached peace and love and walked fearlessly among the rest of us,had his life snuffed out by a gun, what a horribly ironic way for him to die.All because one Martin Damian Chapstick (I never write his real name because he thrives on his infamy)wanted his name to become known around the world.Apparently this jerk will soon be up for parole-I just hope that he gets it because I dare say there are hundreds who want to become famous for putting a slug between his peepers and they'll hunt him until they get him.

Hard to believe it is 31 years ago. I remember waking up to the news of his death I was only 12 at the time with the time difference it was the early of the morning for us Brits. His music and belief in peace is still as relevant today as it has ever been maybe more so. I am a Beatles fan and especially George and John.......not surprising me and George share the same surname and I live in Liverpool.

Not sure John would want any retribution on the scumbag if he is ever released 6 parole attempts denied so far i believe...the sad fact if he is ever released the media clamour for the story of the man who shot John Lennon would be massive and totally misguided.

I would adapt a parole tag...you know the one that parolees wear to monitor there movement etc...so the it played continuous Lennon music, interviews and books etc and if he tampered with it he get sent back to jail.

RIP John and George I bet they are jamming together right now....i can almost hear he music of John on his casino and George on his tele!!!!!

I'll never forget it because back then I still had a daily paper route, so I delivered all of those newspapers with the big cover photo of Lennon in his "Love NY" shirt with the headlines and story of his death.

At that time I wasn't a big Beatles fan but it struck me that it seemed such a waste of a great person's life.

When we got the news of John's death my best buddy and bandmate for many years went into his music room/studio and spent the whole day teary -eyed singing his songs.

John is/was my biggest guitar influence.

I was in college in Fayetteville, Arkansas and was living with my brother and he'd spent an all nighter in architecture school for a final. I woke up to Beatles songs as the alarm radio. I said to him when he walked in (I hadn't heard the news yet) - "Gonna be a great day, they're playing nothin but Beatles on the radio!". He said, "Phillip, sit down".
I spent most of the day at a local park just staring into space.
