Darby Crash was the frontman of The Germs. Personally, he's one of my big influences for being such an incredible writer and performer. He could say something without saying it. He didn't need many words to get his point across, and 31 years ago today, he committed suicide with a heroine overdose. Yes, Pearl Harbor happened, but there were already threads on it and I didn't want anyone to forget this amazing person. (Note: if you don't know or like The Germs, or my opinion, keep it to yourself)

The Germs were awesome. There's something haunting about that first version of 'Forming'. So simple yet so much meaning. Its also funny how Darby complains about the musicianship on mic at the end.

Have you seen that $@!& Germs movie? If you havent dont bother, it cheapens the legacy of the band imo.

I've seen WWDIS and The Decline. I liked them both. I like how they reformed after WWDIS was released because the actor used to play Darby was too good at playing him. I love them though. Lexicon Devil was the first song I learned and Forming was the 3rd. I also prefer the fast version of Lexicon Devil. Glad to see another Germs fan.

I agree, but what they lacked in talent/popularity, they made up for in personality/delivery of message. A lot of their songs are very powerful, subversive, and mysterious. I think subversive art is dead too. I feel a lot of that died with grunge in the mid 90s, basically taking away the true power in music. I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but most of the stuff I hear, made nowadays is garbage. It's all about trivial things that will be forgotten when the next single is released, and that next single is rushed by demand. People still get the same level of satisfaction out of today's music, it just takes more and more of it to satisfy

I meant the Hollywood one, maybe I was a little harsh but it was as much Orange County or Dawson's creek as the Germs to me.

As for Decline of Western Civilization, that's one of my favorite punk rock movies, amazing stuff.

Who do you like better, Black Flag or the Germs?

It's hard to choose. Both have their ups and downs. But, if I had to pick one West Coast band, I'd go with FEAR. I love Lee Ving's vocals and playing. The dramatic "MOOOOOOOREEEEE BEEEEEEEEEEEER!" at 3:09 in More Beer is beautiful.
