Ok, I posted in the "why wives hate guitars" thread that I was heading to the shop with my wife to buy a new Takamine. Well, I got there, and me being me, I had to play damn near every guitar on the wall. The last guitar I pick up is this Fender CD220sce bubinga (sp?). I was blown the hell away. Since when did Fender start making acoustics that play and sound good? I love a Fender electric but was under the impression that Fender just couldn't compete with Takamine, Martin, and Taylor. What the hell happened? This thing sounded wonderful unplugged and plugged in. Does anyone else own one of these? Thoughts? I know this should probably be in teh acoustics forum, but I wanted to let everyone know here that Takamine was not what I bought. Let me know what you guys think about this thing.

Congrats on your new baby, Jack...but you know the rule: show pics or it didn't happen... :P

My first guitar was/is (still own it) a Fender F-250 dreadnaught acoustic...and it is a great guitar.

I have had several "gear snobs" state that the sound, feel and playability of this guitar is superior to axes twice or three times the price.

Does it compare to a high-end Taylor? Not really, but that's apples and oranges...but I would compare it favorably to a high-end Takamine or Yamaha acoustic.

Also, a friend (who has since passed away) gave me a Fender F-270SCE, and it is an excellent axe. The acoustic tone isn't quite as good as my original F-250, but it is a cool "beater" and it can be plugged in for live performances... 8)

The bubinga wood alone merits a picture for us all to see 8)

And as for the Martin /Taylor comparison, does my Montara sound as good as one of those? Probably not, but it cost 1/6th the price and still plays well, feels good to me so it's all good.

Let's see the new baby now!

Clarification......I left the guitar at the shop....but did pay for it. Having them change out the strings, setting it up for my preferences, etc. Wife will be picking it up first of next week. She said I can't have it till Christmas.... :( .....but she agreed to take pictures of it for me so I can show it off before hand. Good grief, it's a beautiful guitar and sounds really good. Once I get the Elixr's on it and the action lowered, it should be perfect.

Here's a tip. Have your wife haggle with the shop owner while you enjoy playing the guitar. It's a much more pleasurable experience. She got him down to over $100 less than asking price. Sure, she goes in there a lot to get me presents, etc., so he knows her, but it was hilarious nontheless. When we left I told him "Thanks! and I'm Sorry!"

I did the same thing except they did not have the Dao CD220SCE I wanted, so I went ahead and bought the CD200SCE and was also blown away! Be watchful for the (Fender) Tacoma acoustics...I think again we will be blown away. I love the sound and quality of mine...it's not really flashy or exotic, but has great playability, sound, quality etc. I also went to get a Takemine....but Fender really did a great job with these..I played Martin, Yamaha, and Takamine then the Fender. The whole "Fender never made a good acoustic" stops with this guitar(IMO) Have fun and enjoy! :D

It was really weird. I felt like I was in bizzaro world. I knew pretty much what I wanted, a G series Takamine, and went with all intentions of buying one. I tried out a few of them actually, and thought, "sweet, now let's play every damn guitar in this joint for the hell of it." Martin, check, Taylor, check,.....the store owner comes up and says that I should try out some of the Fenders. I actually laughed at him. "Excuse me, I love Fender electric guitars, but their acoustics are crap! Don't waste your breath." He went on to explain that he felt the same way until recently and that Fender had really come a long way.

So, to prove his $@! wrong, I played some. Huh, this doesn't suck that bad.....neither does this one.....what the hell?!! Then I picked up the CD220sce.....wtf! This can't be right. I truly had to make sure it was a Fender. I put it down and picked up the Takamine that I had already picked out. Swapped out twice to make sure what I was hearing. I could not freaking believe that a Fender at half the price sounded and looked better than a Takamine that I thought I was already in love with. Folks, If you are looking for a new acoustic electric, compare and contrast. I'm still in shock......and I want the dang thing now! Wife is really going to stick to the "Christmas Presents.....you get them on Christmas day" thing.

Wise choice. I so want to find an old Wildwood, Concert or Kingman.

it doesn't surprise me ....over the years having owned numerous Fender acoustics going back to 1970 I always get into arguments with gear snobs about them. I've always thought that bang for the buck, the Fenders I have personally owned stand up in tone and playability to all the expensive "heavy hitters". Glad you're happy with your purchase...enjoy

Let's see if this works. This is my new Fender. The top is Spruce and the sides and back are Ash Burl. I do believe I was wrong in a previous post. The photos aren't great, but it is a camera phone.
