I’m sure it’s commonplace when anything you do takes you away from her and she feels left out. For me, the guitar is just another one of those things I enjoy doing but in no way is it a method to avoid her (what she has said). I have way too many hobbies and I seem to switch from one to another at a random pace for no reason other than to scratch the itch. From the boat and fishing, “I don’t know why you’ll spend $50 bucks on gas, $10 to launch, $30 on live bait and for just a few fish”, or to drive 3 hours to hunt for a few ducks, quail, chucker or dove, or to spend a few hours talking on the ham radio “to someone you don’t know, will never meet, about something totally unimportant”. I may then switch to the RC gliders for a few afternoons of the uplift breeze, staring into the sky watching my planes go back and forth. In the spring the vegetable garden gets its afternoon attention. My guitar time is mostly on the weekends in the mornings when she is still sleeping (I’m up pre daylight usually due to my work schedule) and sometimes after everyone has hit the sack. This leads to not enjoying the full sound of the amp but having the headphones on so not to bother anyone. I got her a guitar (her wish) a couple years ago but she never got past the ‘this is too hard’ stage and she doesn’t enjoy it. I do turn to the guitars when she’s watching a show I consider lame, and I’m even still in the same room but I still get ‘the look’.

She doesn’t really hate the guitars but when the second guitar and third amp came, the “what do you need those for?” came up. Whatever you do, don’t even try the “what about all those shoes” reasoning. It will not work in your favor. My hobbies are my release for the frustration of working a tough job and just getting away from life’s challenges for a while. Her hobbies don’t do that for me and mine don’t do it for her, but I can still see the love in ‘the look’ after 32+ years.

Thats funny! Heres a pic front and back of one of my "Mistresses". My lady doesn't like me having more than three guitars. Pisses me off to a degree. But I guess I shouldn't complain with the 3 I have. All nice!

I came home the other day with a Shepard Fairey "Obay" Squire and she couldn't believe how neat it was. I bought it just to have it. It's the 27th guitar in the last year.

Not good advise, but I always laugh when I think of what a friend used to say to rib his spouse (made her laugh): Definition of the good life...old houses, old cars, old guitars...and a young wife.

My significant other of 25 years has always supported everything. I don't have three Strats only one, but our home is currently housing fourteen guitars, a few amps and a violin and she helped pick out the last two guitars I bought. Our house has quite a bit of gear. I won't even get started on how much photo gear I own too and on top of that, we rehearse here a couple times a week. I never have to ask permission for a single thing. I consider myself extremely lucky to have found a soul mate like that.

It doesn't get any better than that, Supro!

I don't have a wife anymore, and not going to get another one....but I still have guitars, amps, and when the weekend comes around,I go play music.....there's something good about doing what I want to do and when I want to do it.
I was married for a long time and have been single for 14 years,I ain't changing my ways for anybody at this stage of the game.
