Hubert Sumlin has passed away at age 80yrs http://www.suntimes.com/news/obituaries/9248877-418/chicago-bluesman-hubert-sumlin-guitarist-for-howlin-wolf-dies-at-80.html.

I backed Hubert a couple of times and he was the most humble man, to be a living blues legend.

Will be sorely missed. :( A great guitar player and seemed to really enjoy his art.
I'll watch his performances at the Crossroads 2010 concert tonight. Check my sig for one of my favorite guitarist quotes of all time, by him. RIP Hubert Sumlin...

Oh No,that's just terrible,he certainly was an influence on me,his playing and the riffs he created for Howlin' Wolf and Willie Dixon songs were emulated and picked up by just about every guy that played blues guitar-most not even realizing that they originated with Hubert. Both Hubert,Willie Dixon and Pinetop Perkins were an indespensible part of The Wolf's sound and now all these blues giants are gone. They're be a big blues jam in Heaven tonight for sure. Thanks for all those wonderful riffs Hubert,God Bless.

Hubert's playing was deeply soulful, satisfying, intriguing, and magical. I couldn't have loved him more if he were a flesh-and-blood relative. I saw him just over a year ago, and while his health was clearly in decline, Hubert played with the wisdom of age yet the exuberant spirit of a teenager just discovering the guitar.
What is great - and unique - about Hubert's career is that, unlike many great musicians of his era, Hubert actually gained more and more respect and recognition from musicians/fans and from those who were inspired by him as time went on. And rightfully so; he was a kind, giving soul who gave those who love music so much just by being himself.
Thanks, Hubert, and rest easy. We'll never figure out quite how you played those magical licks, but we'll have a great time listening and trying for years to come!

I forgot to mention that Hubert recognized the great talent shown by one of the young ladies in our Forum. He singled out our own Texas Guitar Slinger as being a major talent, now that's pretty good accolades to be coming from a blues giant and a pretty big feather for her to be wearing in her cap.
