About the biggest name in rock groups to come here since Rory Gallagher came is coming here in Feb.We are being blessed with an appearance by Deep Purple and they are without a doubt about the biggest name band that's played here except of course maybe Supertramp and David Bowie.Ticket prices haven't been announced but since the venue is only about 5,500 seats I imagine the tickets will be far north of $100.With my birthday coming in March that would be a great birthday gift.

Well, all I can say is that if you're a big Purple fan then you're in for a hellova show. If you're not much of a Purple fan you might be dissapointed. The second time I saw them they were part of a larger festival so most folks weren't neccesasarily there to see Purple and many in the crowd were disappointed because all they really wanted to hear was Smoke On The Water and maybe Highway Star or Knocking at Your Back door. I remember the second time I saw them far better than the first time. I was sober and it was 20 years more recent. To most of the crowd's dismay and to my great delight they played a big show and did all my favourites and more: Maybe I'm a Leo, Rat Bat Blue, Speed King, Burn, Might Just Take Your Life, Blood Sucker, Lazy, Living Wreck and whole bunch of others. For their last song they played Knocking and then did Highway and Smoke for an encore which finally got the crowd roaring. For me the highlight of the show was around the mid-point with an awsome version of Child In Time. First time I saw them I was young and pretty messed up on a lot of "mood enhancers".

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I found out that the tickets are just $65 for general admission,so if they are that cheap for general admission I think that I'll spring for seats with a closer vantage point and pay the few bucks extra.BTW it's indoor.

SIXTY FIVE BUCKS......???

The last time I saw Deep Purple was in 1972 at the Warehouse in New Orleans and the open-seating tickets were $5.50!

Humble Pie and the Doobie Brothers were the warm-up acts.

I hope it'll be worth it, GS.

Regrettably, $65 is cheap these days. Especially now that bands make their money from touring, rather than record sales. Tours used to be loss leaders to promote albums etc.

I've been a big Purple fan for 35 years, but have passed on the last 2 tours. I think the current show - at least in Europe - has had orchestral support. Not playing the Concerto, but supplementing the group arrangements for a truly huge sound.

The band will all be fantastic. Paicey and Glover will play their hearts out, Gillan will be competent (his voice is OK but not the mighty force it was before he killed it with endless f###ing screaming!) and he will tell silly stories between numbers that make you just want to yell "Get on with it!" Steve Morse will be incredible and Don Airey will be technically marvellous, but without the soul that Jon Lord bought to the band.

One thing for sure, is that they will play some slightly less well known oldies - you've mentioned a few - that Blackmore would never allow in the show. And that's great as far as I'm concerned. I don't need to hear the BIG numbers all the time.

Glad they're hitting your Town, especially if you're normally so starved of great live music. And enjoy the band - might be their last time around. Some of the band are well on the way to being 70yrs old.

But for this fan at least, they should have called it a day when Jon Lord retired. Even so, musically I don't doubt they will be head and shoulders above 95% of any band you'll see these days..

If they do a bang up job of Child In Time I think it would be worth the admission price. At this point in time I'd much rather see Deep Purple than the Stones.
