I was just wondering if I could have some help connecting my halfstack with my head. I don't know if I got it right or why it's doing what it's doing :?

I had it connected with various cables that fire them both up, but nothing after that. I've never gotten it to register pickups or anything. Not even a scratch test. I've gotten multiple answers that never work. Some people say that I need an L to straight jack cable, others have said any old cable will work, so what's the deal?

The head is a Crate GX900-H from the late 80s (original owner stated it) and the stack is a 1989 KMD GV412-S (Traced the SN, made in Britain)

If you need pictures to make a connection diagram, I'll get them as soon as can.

Thanks.

So, I messed around with it and it only works with channel b :?

hi , for head to cab you need a good quality speaker cabe , not very expensive at all , but what you mention means that you need either a footswitch to switch between chanels or there's something up with you're amp , cheers

A lot of people are under the misconception that any instrument patch cable will do for a speaker cabinet hook up-that is not the case.A speaker cabinet needs an "unsheilded" cable made specifically for speaker cabinets whereas a guitar needs a "sheilded"cable to function properly.

This thing has really funky controls (I had to adjust a specific tone knob to get it to work.. I just found that if I adjust the high and the level on A, it raises the volume and registers. Thanks for the help, I was just worried I'd end up like this, if I did anything wrong.

It also takes more volume from the guitar itself on B to work.

Maybe your amp is getting wonky and is in need of an overhaul.A lot of repair places have free estimates,if you could get an estimate at least you'd get some idea of the trouble source and the cost to put it right.

Or I could save up for a better one. Maybe one with better gain, perhaps. 8)

i don't know that amp myself but crate were known for quite high gain amps , but if you want something that sounds much better , save up and get a marshall valve amp , and if you're struggling for cash cash check out the marshall AVT amps , nice sounding amps for the money . ymmv , cheers
