My current project, because I've put quite a good amount of work into it.

My '65 Jaguar had an interesting life prior to me buying her.A guy had the Jag stolen from his house and after a few months without it he decided to sell his amp.A guy phoned about the amp and was told to bring a guitar as the sellers guitar had been stolen .When he walked in what should be be holding but the guitar he had bought from the thief never suspecting that it was stolen. The guitar was in hard shape, the back of it looked like it had been dragged down a gravel road behind a car.Anyway he got the guitar back and traded it and the amp on an acoustic and I bought it from the dealer who told me its story.

I'd have to pick my '91 Strat Plus

Bought it back in 1996 when my band got our first advance for recording. I'd been using numerous cheap guitars up until then, so as soon as we had a bit of cash floating around, I jumped at the chance to go and raid the local music store. My first bigger gigs were with that guitar, so it helped create many wonderful memories.

In 1999, a while after that band had split, I moved to the US for a few years. To help fund things, I sold the Strat Plus on to the same store I bought it at, and immediately regretted it. Ah well.

Fast forward to 2011!

Long since back in the UK, I went shopping with my current bassist for a new bass for him, and I wandered off to look around at the Strats while he looked at Jazz basses. Looked at the rack of used guitars, and saw a a familiar big chunky Wilkinson roller nut on one of them. "Ahh, must be a Plus!" thought I, and went over for a closer look. "Ooh. Sunburst with maple neck, just like my old one. Slightly off colour bridge pickup, just like my old one. Annoying chunk of finish missing on one side of the neck, just like my old one. Waaaaaitaminute..."

Made a note of the serial, and when I got home, I dragged out a few old photos I took when I bought it. Serial number was dead on. It was my old Strat!

Needless to say, the next day involved parting with a chunk of money and coming home with an old friend, which is now my main guitar again.

Hi Vulpinity that's a cool story,I wish I could find my beautiful old Moserite copy I traded years ago.

That's a beauty of a guitar Andy, you did a great job on her.I know all too well also how hard it is to loose a beloved pet,it's great that you built the guitar to honor him.

Andy, that's touching. I lost a cat in 5th grade and cried for about 4 hours, non stop. He was such a cool cat.

Hello ralfcaetano, cool thread Bro. While I was thinking of my bass guitar's story I remembered that long ago in a land far far away... oh wait, that's a different story. I remember now. I found her in the basement of my Bro Mike's apartment building on Morgan St. and Fulton in the Fulton meat market district on the west side of Chicago. A big old building. Mike had a workshop down there (the landlord let Mike put his workshop there in exchange for doing odd jobs around the premises). While Mike was working I was nosying around and went in the boiler room. Something in the corner behind the huge boiler caught my eye and when i got closer saw that it was a beat up warped Fender p-bass, a Squire model, red, my favorite color, leaning against the wall. I asked Mike if I could take it home and he said "yeah". Then I remembered telling this story when I joined this Forum and around page no. 266 I found it.

Here is the original post from way back then:

"I named my Squire Mexican p-bass ' Love ' because when I got her she was in pretty bad shape. All of the local Luthiers said she was a lost cause and to pull the plug so to speak ( that's what I get for being lazy for a moment ). So I went to the manuals section on Fender's website and in big bold letters it said "Play Your Fender" ( I'm exaggerating a bit ) so I gave her a lot of love over the next few weeks and love is back to Love , What else can I say ."

Most of my guitars have a little special meaning to me, but the one guitar that I would never sell and has true sentimental (sp) value to me isn't even an electric....nor a Fender ( ).

It's my 1975 MIJ Epiphone Cabellero acoustic. OK, before some of you go "WTF!!??" Hold up. It was the day after Christmas 5 years ago. My inlaws gave me $100 as my present (they had no clue what to get me). Well, I had always wanted to learn how to play guitar and I figured that I might find one at a pawn shop and I had been told that an acoustic was the best thing to learn on. (finger strength etc.) Anyways, I found this guitar and my wife talked them down to $125 and I bought it. After a couple of years of playing and loving it, I decided it needed work. I sent it to the best damn luthier in MS and he turned this guitar into something even more special. New frets, nut, tuners, bridge, bridge pins, and even put a new top block inside. He gave it back to me and told me that these guitars sounded like crap 30 years ago, but have aged really well and had a wonderful sound. He was right. Every time I break that badboy out, somebody has to ask about it. My uncle swears it sounds like an acoustic Clapton plays a good bit on stage. It is the sweetest sounding guitar, and it has a persona of its own. I love it.

I'm sure if guitars could talk a number of my older ones would have great stories to tell, but since I have acquired them, their lives have been calm and safe and serene; even the ones who've been on the road with me for years have no complaints.
