Preferred seat while playing? Years ago we talked about this and I thought I would refresh the discussion. Around the house I do most of my playing seated and for years know I have been using a Tama drum stool because I find it soft and easy to adjust if I want to change the height. I have even used it on stage.
What seat do other members use and why? Likes and dislikes?

I need a new seat. The office chair with arms is not cutting it.

As usual, my opinion is probably unpopular but ....

I very rarely play seated, if ever. Even practicing at home I stand. I just don't see the point in sitting. I won't be sitting when I'm playing "when it counts" so I don't practice that way either. The only time I play seated is in someone's living room over coffee with an acoustic or around the campfire. That's also the same reason I don't play electrics unplugged. There's no point to it. It does not serve me to play an electric unplugged. That kind of practice is worthless to me because it does not translate to real world conditions.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I use a guitar stool. Bought it on Ebay for $80 and was the best thing for me with a back injury.

After a whole day at work, walking around on the concrete floor, I sit at home when I play. I use a regular kitchen chair. But I might try a guitar stool in the future, I find them usefull at the guitar store instead of sitting on a $1500.00 brand new amp.

I usually stand, walk around a little. Sometimes I sit on my bed, sometimes when no-one is in I'll sit on the settee in front of the TV is no-one is in. I tend to end up sitting on the floor during singsongs at parties and gatherings and such.

I kick back in the recliner, yeah,it's a weird position to play in but I just keep my fingers loosened up...standing for hours at a gig is tiresome, and I might have to get a stool to prop up on.

+100!

I'm with you all the way. The only time I'm sitting when I'm playing in the Music Room is if I am working on lyrics on the computer at the same time. When my partner comes over to practice, we always stand. He bitches, but we stand.

I am of the same mind as CRGuitarMan, tbazzone, Tochai, BMW-KTM, in that I stand while practicing especially a set list for gigs. I have a steel folding chair that I use and have been known to use the kitchen chair I am sitting on now while working out new material, getting older lol. I have thought that an attractive Zaftig lady's lap might be a nice place to settle into while practicing on those frigid Chicago winter nights  , sorry, nevermind.

I usually stand when playing. If I sit I have a dining room chair I sit in if I feel like I need to sit.
