Anyone here one? personally I'm a huge fan of history, especially regarding the history of warfare and military tactics. I'm really into the ancient Roman empire, medieval times, and I am starting to get into Eastern civilization, especially the feudal era of Japan, and also the British empire. (Cue 'The British Grenadiers' please)

Starting next fall I'll be going to SIU (Southern IL University) majoring in history. Any other history nerds on the forum :?:

Oh forgot to mention WWII. that's what got me into history basically. Especially aerial warfare in that period. That's what made me originally want to be a pilot. Changed my mind on that one though.

Carbondale or Edwardsville campus?

Say "hi" to T2Stratman while you're out there -- he lives pretty close.

I'm into US military history and the development of small arms and military aircraft.

Yes I do. But in the interests of confidentiality I'll refrain from revealing his precise posrep. I lived in southern Illinois for a time as well -- just down the road a piece from O'Fallon (birthplace of actor William Holden) and Scott Field. My draft board was in Belleville.......if anybody remembers what those were.

My grandpa has a ton of guns, all ranging from the 1870s to the 1940s. I'm not gonna lie, I love old guns.

History is a great subject and you won't run out of interesting information ever. Military history, the Imperial War Museum London is a great place to start. I visited there when stationed in the UK during the Vietnam war. Many amazing artifacts, perhaps if that will be your major in college a school sponsored field trip will be offered. Have fun at SIU Jake. A great school that a few of the people I grew up with are alumni and they all had a wonderful learning experience there.

The Great World War (what we now call WW1) is where all the interesting stuff is. That war set the stage and foreshadowed what was to come and it still impacts us heavily today. That war revealed who really pulls the strings in this world and why, ie: who has the power and what they want. Yah, there was some crap that went on in Yugoslavia but that was all window dressing.

I have had an interest in WWII since I was a kid. I even have several sets of books dealing with WWII. I am also quite interested in the history of England, especially King Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I.
I have also done my family history (Genealogy) and have most of it back to the mid 1500's.
