Wait a minute, is Buxom a Cannuck?

What do you mean. If you mean Canadian, no. I live up the highway from Washington DC, never been to Canada either.

I will pay you a royalty of .4876 cents (Canadian) each time I use the word, and credit you in the same way that Bob Kane is given creator credit for Batman.

It will be awkward in my speech patterns, but I will quickly say, "Created by James Buxom, copyright 2011..." each time I use the word.

Hey! that word does not apply to my OWn behaviour. Anyway i need strings! my Squier's strings broke during guitar lessons :( so i had to grab a steel string acoustic and play along with my teacher with it

I got an incredible deal on eBay of the perfect Strat I was looking for, a black Custom Shop NOS '69 Stratocaster with a maple neck (discontinued). Gets sent all the way to the local UPS facility, everything goes fine till Tuesday at 4 AM it was "Out for Delivery" to never show up. Got other stuff from UPS yesterday but not the guitar.

Seller already filed a claim and UPS are "tracing" it. I went to the facility tonight and asked for the item in person. "Oh, it says here that it got lost...we are already looking for it".

Now my question is how can a guitar get "lost".
I don't trust these guys, am I wrong in thinking someone at UPS liked my Strat too much?

I'm sure I'm not the only one going through this...what a frustrating experience. Anybody know the success rate of this "tracings"?

UPS was my 3rd job after my first 4 years in service. One early morning when the horn went off for break, as I was walking along the dock towards the break room I happened to look into a package truck and saw a young man sitting on the floor of the truck hurriedly ripping open packages searching for valuables. I was mad as hell and in a low voice with a lot of conviction I said to him "what the hell do you think your doing?' as I walked into truck. He looked up at me, a big kid new on the job, I scared the hell out of him and he started shaking. Then in a shaky voice he began to apologize. I stopped him, then I said "I'm going on break, when I come back all of those packages better be taped up and on the shelves or I'm going to kick your arse all over this building!" He sheepishly said "yes sir" and began to put the packages back together. Why didn't I just turn him in? Get him fired on the spot. Because that was my dock, the best dock in the system. I wasn't his supervisor just a couple years older but I'd been there a couple of years longer so much wiser. I didn't want to hurt him just teach him a lesson that he'd never forget. When I returned from break with the rest of the crew he was waiting on the dock outside the truck still nervous and with a worried look on his face. I walked into the truck and checked to make sure everything was back together with not too much obvious damage. He did a good job, paid attention to detail, I knew he listened and wanted to smile but I wasn't going to let him off the hook yet. As I walked out of his truck and back to my 5 trucks I said to him "don't let me catch you doing that again or you know what will happen". He tried to thank me but I just went to work. After that every day he would talk to me and I just played the serious old man to keep him in line. I was going back to school in a few months to get my degree in music and by the time I left he was handling 4 trucks of his own. He turned out alright. Flash forward a dozen years, I'm selling real estate and showing some buyers a beautiful colonial with a two car garage. A Mom and two small children playing in the yard. My buyers had small children as well. There was a big swing-set in the yard. Perfect. I knew I had a sale. Then a big guy walks out of the house, and who is it? That's right Mr UPS. He see's me and runs over shakes my hand hugs me and practically drags me into the garage and starts to blurt out how I saved his life that he went back to school and studied computer programming which he was able to pay for while working at UPS with their student/employee assistance and got married and has kids and it's all because of me not doing what he thought I would do. I told him that I knew he'd be fine and was proud of him and would he please negotiate easily as my buyers wanted that house. He smiled and was happy and told me that he and his family were having a new house built so would my buyers let them rent-back for a couple of months until their new home was completed. Happy ending right? Right. Look Bro that was the only thing I ever saw in the 3 odd years that I worked for UPS. I'm sorry that your guitar is missing. Let UPS know and they'll make it right. At least that's how it was when I was there.

You did the right thing, SBLS.

That kid had an epiphany courtesy of your "people" skills -- less intuitive folks would've merely turned him over to management. And I'm certain this anecdote would've had a substantially less-happy ending for the lad had that occured.

Hand salute!

Arjay

WOW SBLS. That paragraph would be visible from the moon.
I'll get something to eat and then try to read it

OK, read your post. Great story. Much respect to you sir.

Personally I have a 100% success with USPS packages to Australia - guitar bodies, necks, hardware, so far, so good.

I hope that the OP finds a similar guitar soon.

Lost could mean several things....I worked at Fed-Ex Last Year, packages are scanned before loading on a truck, and after being unloaded, guitars are big in their cases and cardboard boxes, there referred to as IC's or Incompatibles, they get handled and scanned and placed on a specific conveyor.

I would not list it as stolen as of yet, bear in mind if you do, it is found, then the police may want to hold it as evidence, which would mean that you won't have your guitar for quite some time.
Also it is the Holiday season so a lot of merchandise is moving thru UPS and FED-Ex and the Other's..It is not unusual for a package to mistakenly get rerouted elsewhere, because of the Computer tracking, UPS is able to pinpoint where and when your Guitar went off the radar.
I would be persistent about calling and inquiring as to its whereabouts but I would not get the police involved until everything else has been done, such as tracking, insurance compensation etc...etc...

Good Luck...

A wise advice.
It happened to me that a guitar went back to the Seller.
Then I got it; lately but I got it.

Yep, I've been where you are...had the panic attacks...but after about 3 days of
searching, they somehow "found" my guitar. You *do* need to be persistent to
the point of being a PITA though!

Good luck!
