BTW Ceri....Thanks...I might have to look into Behlen Instrument Lacquer
I have been planning the next build and am totally on the fence wether I'm going to build it from raw blanks or have the neck and body from a supplier and go from there....
Actually tomorrow I'll go and spec out some Mahogany, Flamed maple and Walnut.... :?:  :?:

Ah, timber buying: that's an addiction that never ends! :D

We'd all sit on the edge of our seats watching you do a body and neck from the ground up, 53. Should we be getting some popcorn in?

Regarding Behlen: I like their products very much, and they cover a lot of bases. Your side of the pond they are to be found at www.hbehlen.com : well worth checking out their catalog. Instrument finishing supplies to be found on pages 9-11 of the .pdf, but most of the rest of the catalog is of interest as well.

I love guitar related catalogs!

Bon courage - C

I found this other company called Ohio something. (I forgot the name of it, but it had Ohio in it) I'll be sure to look into it. I'm trying to do this budgeted. I'm doing the decal in hot pink nail polish. I also raided my shed and found tons of useful stuff. I found probably 6 packs of various sandpaper, ranging from super coarse to super fine, a vintage soldering iron, and an some body shop equipment (automotive sander/drill)

OK...This is neither The Charge of the Light Brigade or a Blitzkrieg...

Vintage soldering Iron....Hmmm....Use it as a Paperweight/Conversation Piece.
Sandpaper has to be Wet/Dry Grit from 200 to 800...anything below 150 will be too coarse.
The Sander Drill...sounds like a new doorstop to me.....

Seriously....Bux ( was the name of a Boston Punk Band ) this is all done by hand, you cannot do this with an orbital sander unless you have sanded dozens of time. By hand it is slow enough to catch mistakes and rectify. Plus you are on a learning curve here..easy does it...
With an orbital sander it will be too late when you realize you've taken too much off and you now have a flat spot or worse....(emo of head bangin against wall )
Remember this is going to take a while...Plan on 2 to 3 months...between the steps and curing, youdo not want to attach a neck that is still curing....( been There...Done That..

I suggest you buy new sandpaper, you are not going to need much so by the sheet or packet will last for this project and plenty for the next...It's addictive Once you've done a guitar...

BTW...But you will need a sanding block or two....you can make them yourself from scrap pieces of wood....Discarded at a woodshop.. :?: :?:

I wasn't planning on using the drill for this. I might play with it in the future though. It just deserved and honorable mention  As for the curing neck, should I just leave it hanging somewhere, or what? In the case maybe?

I was just about to throw the box out and I heard some rattling. It was a set of maybe early 80s-90s hex-backed tuners, stuffed in the bottom. I personally don't like them because I've had bad experiences with them, but if anyone wants them, I'll ship when I can.

The neck dries how it is sprayed, in my build thread I have the neck resting on two cans of paint.
It worked quite well, narrower diameter cap than the neck width. spraying onto a horizontal object is easier than spraying if the neck is held up vertically...You want the finish to spread smooth out and stay, not run in drips...Why you spray multiple light coats

Curing can be done by hanging... from a clothes hanger thru the tuner hole.

But Never...Never in the case...As a matter of fact make double sure that when the instrument or parts go back in the case...They have completely cured....Weeks are needed....

Keep them...you never know when you'll need a set of inexpensive tuners....

I'm not a fan of them though. They're kinda floppy feeling.

So, just let it hang out all winter? I plan on having it sprayed in a couple weeks. I also love the grain patterns and the small dings that would take too much effort to get out. It's a beautiful neck.
