IMHO. Progressive Rock gets away from the typical "blues rock" of ZZ Top, Rolling Stones,
Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc. Prog rock expands the horizon of music played.

Think the 1970s groups, such as Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, Genesis, King Crimson, Yes,
Camel, Jethro Tull and Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Some, Alternative Rock of the 1980s/1990s
has influences from Prog Rock. Just Rock evolving.

Have not heard much progressive stuff of recent make. My nephew tells me the genre is very much alive. I´m 42 so my suggested link will take you to the 1970´s.

Being kind of a purist, IMHO not just anything can be called Progressive. And not many have the will to listen all throughout. Yet that is what Progressive is, a musical growth that unfolds as you listen on to the extended form.

One of my favorites for sure, BANCO DEL MUTUO SOCCORSO. THE ALBUM IS DARWIN.

If this isn´t Progressive, you can have my Strat!
Have a great weekend everyone!

There is a middle period of King Crimson (Larks Tongues in Aspic, Starless and Bible Black, Red are the albums from it) that are about as awesome as Prog Rock gets. Newer Prog Rock for me right now would be....I gotta say Mastodon's Blood Mountain is about as good as it gets! Also check out anything by the Mars Volta!

I am glad that Supertramp's Crime of the Century got a nod.

Someone mentioned Todd Rundgren. Todd had a side project called Utopia that had some great stuff -- heavier and MUCH more guitar oriented than his regular solo stuff. Check out "last of the new wave riders".

Also, ELO's stuff in the mid-70s should (up to the "A new world record" album) also be included. Fabulous material. I love old ELO.

Has any one mentioned Marillion?? I love Marillion ... just in case no one has mentioed them. Misplaced Childhood is one of my favorite albums of all time.

And as for Yes, check out the "Drama" album. This album is often forgotten about as it is the only Yes album without Jon Anderson on vocals. Great album - check out "Tempus Fugit".
