If you like Porcupine Tree, look at Steven Wilson's solo efforts.

Also, Steven Wilson has been very involved with re-mastering of earlier Pro-rock bands such as Genesis and Jethro Tull.

Crime of the Century, Supertramp's breakthrough album. 45 minutes of brilliance and one of my 5 favourite albums of the 70s. Made before they became more commercially focussed with Breakfast in America.

It includes their hit single of the time, Dreamer..

!!!Update!!! From my last post.Jeez I didnt expect the reception,Thanks.Ok, Ive gotten alot of great ideas here.I learned I like alot of it but I do Not Like Genesis at all. What the heck does a lamb lieing down on broadway supposed to mean?Alot of yes I like alot of external visuals and many textures to there sound craft. Alot of the singers I do not like from the 70's style to much. But like with porcupine tree the vocals arent as harsh imo.I have yet listened to all the suggestions yet but thank god for youtube.

Here's one! Probably not recognised as a progressive rock band but I thought this song was at the time.
Moby Grape - I't Can't Be So Bad

Ah a prog thread! Well to add to the amazing bands already mentioned. Here's a few of my fave prog/metal bands:

Between the Buried and Me. These guys are amazinghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N ... ata_player, it's like Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, Lamb Of God and Mastodon had a baby.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZsRlPQv ... ata_player

Speaking of which. Shane in you for not mentioning Pink Floyd!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opiSrL8L ... ata_player

Mastodon's Crack the Skye. Absolutely epic album. Their best.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Le0pD-Wj ... ata_player

For the more of the prog purist that enjoys porcupine tree and the like:
Andromeda.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lI11CiE ... ata_player

And to me, this was the biggest surprise of 2011. The Aristocrats:
Not exactly classified as prog but it has most of the prog elements without having 10+ minute long songs. Plus if you don't know who Guthrie Govan is, well then you should! These guys make amazing music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSVhuZir ... ata_player

these Bros progressed so hard and fast their wake pulled countless now famous metal bands into the ionosphere right along with them. I really do love Motorhead music. Thankyou Lemmy!
