The birth of Prog Rock began when the Kings of the rock scene: the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys, Jimi's Experience, the Cream et al released albums with progessive rock songs on them. Most of those beloved albums are favorites to this very day, have stood the test of time quite well and still inspire. The songs, A Day In The Life.., 2000 Light Years From Home, Tales Of Brave Ulysses, Good Vibrations, 1983 A Merman I Should Turn To Be progressed far beyond, Peggy Sue, I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Satisfaction, Purple Haze, Sunshine Of Your Love, I Get Around, well, why go on? Here is Jimi:

Roxy Music's For Your Pleasure is a classic Prog Rock album ,In Every Dream Home a Heartache is one of the coolest songs ever written.Who else but Bryan Ferry and Phil Manzanera could write a song about a guy's unhealthy obsession with an inflatable sex doll and make you feel sorry for him?

There is a Canadian Prog Rock group called Harem Scarem who have an excellent CD called Voice of Reason-these guys are simply sublime-'nuff said.

Greetings from denmark. Got greatly inspired reading this tread, going to revisit a few of the above mentioned bands.

I would like to recomend 3 german bands, wich all 3 are from the 1970`s. Once in a while they pop up and play a concert. Anyway, here are Amon Düül.

Chicago were an incredible band before they made their drek laden run for the cash and acceptance..

Terry "don't worry it's not loaded" Kath, was easily as good as anyone playing lead guitar at that time..

"The band's music contains elements of African, Latin American, funk, soul music, pop and rock music, jazz and other genres." Pretty progressive band.

If you like Porcupine Tree, look at Steven Wilson's solo efforts.

Also, Steven Wilson has been very involved with re-mastering of earlier Pro-rock bands such as Genesis and Jethro Tull.
