With me it always has been pick and choose, though at the top of my aged list  I still listen to Yes, Genesis, Emerson Lake & Palmer, ( actually slipped Jethro Tull's living in the past in the Car Cd player these last couple of days. )

Interestingly I don't see anyone having mentioned Uriah Heep, they definitely fit the category with their 2nd Album " Salisbury " as well as " Demons and Wizard's " and the " Magician's Birthday"

Or Todd Rundgren " A true Star a Wizard."

Frank Zappa should also fit in as his own brand of progressive rock....

Demons and Wizards are great. I got to assist on their first record when i was at Morrisound in Tampa. Iced Earth is great too. What a fun place that was to work... coolest job i ever had.

My prog rock favs are of course Rush (Rush Rush and Rush LOL) Alex is one of my all time favorite guitarists. Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime is a MUST HAVE if you are looking for something new and are into Dream Theater. The new Maiden album is a bit proggy in my opinion.

I also like the Yes album 'Close to the Edge' that's probably my favorite Yes record. Did i mention Rush LOL. 2112, A Farewell to Kings, and Hemisphere's are your much needed prog rock albums. Caress of Steel is great but it takes a bit of getting used to to some degree. (hard to explain) a great live album to check out would be Exit Stage Left... that will give you a nice mix of the golden years of Rush. Ok... Rush plug over now.

Widespread Panic... progressive meets jazz meets southern rock meets the blues. Jimmy Herring is an awesome guitarist. :!: 8)

The Flower Kings - Prog Rock from Sweden, with excellent rythm section and virtuoso Roine Stolt on guitar; fantastic keyboard sounds and a cracking bassist. Double DVD set "Meet the Flower Kings" is well worth checking out.

Cheers!

I always get excited when someone name checks Be Bop Deluxe.. It should be illegal not to own the "Sunburst Finish" and "Live In The Air Age" albums. Bill Nelson was, and still is, a fabulous guitarist and brilliant musician. If you've not heard of him before, I strongly urge you to invest 7 minutes of your time here ~

Bask in the glorious liquid playing of Bill Nelson on a Gibson 345 Stereo, in this live recording of "Adventures in a Yorkshire Landscape" (Great Fender Rhodes playing too by Andy Clarke):

Good call dharma47 8)
