Most of the bands listed in this thread are not progressive rock.

I liked this one - a new one on me:

Aloha! Yeah I'm not sure if that's the official video. But if you guys like TOOL you will not be disappointed with this album. I like every single song in it.

Here's another song from them that oozes even more TOOL. Cool fan made video with lyrics too.

It's been a while since I visited this thread but I can see by the vast quantity of songs people have mentioned that are simply not prog-rock at all that there is a basic lack of understanding of just exactly what prog-rock is. It seems many of you feel 'progressive' refers to somehow moving the rock music art form further ahead and expanding sonic boundaries. While that is certainly one of the more common aspects of prog-rock it is by no means the single defining characteristic of it nor the most important. The term progressive means the music itself progresses in movements much like classical music of centuries past. I am not referring to the grunge trend of alternating back and forth between soft and hard or slow and fast. I am talking about different moods, beats, riffs, melodies, the who ball of wax. Like individual songs connected together with a common or at least contigious theme. Frequent key changes are also common. Lyrics are sometimes optional. Almost all prog-rock gets no airplay. Ever. That means most of the bands already mentioned are not prog-rock. There are some notable exceptions but that's usually because those songs are a kind of hybrid between prog-rock and conventional rock. The mighty Floyd for example do an amazing blending job. Gilmour in particular.

Sarigul has correctly identified some groups that play prog-rock. Camel is a perfect example. Here is a sample of what prog-rock sounds like. Be sure you don't pay too close attention to the overall sound but rather take notice of the changing nature of the music and the sometimes surprising twists. A couple changes in the intro, another around 3:40 or so, 5:00, 5:30 and so on.

Yeah I agree, the band I posted is not prog but the music is good enough to be mentioned here.

With that said here's one of my favorite prog-death metal songs.

If you can't stand the cookie monster vocals, skip to the 5 minute mark. This song is as heavy as it is proggy. :)

I would say prog- rock as a genre , is what we earlier used to call ''symphonic rock'' . This because of the long ''constructed'' compositions with different parts ,and returning themes. Agree with BMW-KTM ; Camel is a brilliant example. Prog-rock bands has to have good musicians - no use singing a song with 3 chords. The punk movement kind of was a musical reaction to this , amongst other factors. There are still great prog-rock bands around , but it was the 70's prog was on top. Here's one of my favorites from those days :

The title of this thread is '' Progressive Rock Bands''. IMHO that will also include bands outside the ''prog-rock'' -genre . I would say Deep Purple was a progressive rock band , but they never played ''prog-rock''

Thanks asgeirman, Santana took everybody to school back in the old days, lol. Just like the Beatles 6 years prior, people then were surprised at British rock and roll then excited because it was good, similarly Santana brought the latin vibe and even the wallflowers caught the beat.
Here is another rock genre unto themselves band 8)

Pink Floyd - Echoes / Live at Pompeii ( full )
