Kid: Try working on Raunchy. It got Harrison In the Beatles. If that song convinced them it should work on your dad. 8)

I'd try something that your Dad was up on, what era is he...??
80's... 70's....It may be a double edged sword since from his cool period he will know the tune
So do get it right , add a bit of yourself but be careful not to try to impress too much.
Getting an instrumental right and breathing new life into it is a job well done.

I would say play it to your Mom first without your Dad knowing, she should be your best filter as to what will work or not....Even let her select the song....As they Say....
.....In For An Ounce...In For A Pound.....

A good Accomplice is always Priceless.....

You got me lost here dude.....your saying "its not about how good the song is ,but how popular they are".Who cares how popular they are if they aren't good...right.
There are thousands of kick $@! instrumental songs....take Rush for instance.
La Villa Strangiato
YYZ
anything from Steve Morse or Joe Satriani. The list is endless

Why don't you just play him some of your songs. I know everyone here, myself included, are pretty impressed with your talent.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But that's not how the causative property works. They can't have no words because they have no words. That doesn't make sense. I didn't quite understand the last part.

SuperKid, I think I speak for all of us when I say, "What in the world are you asking?"

Please tell us the scenario and clarify what you want, and we'll be able to help you better...

He wants examples of popular instrumentals so that his dad will believe they are worth playing.

Correct?

"Jessica",by the Allman Brothers Band....one of the most played instrumentals on the radio from the '70s up until now on classic rock stations,so I guess that makes it "popular".
