I have always been just a little bit choked that the albums (as in multiple albums from a single artist) on my iPhone are not listed in chronological order under that artist like the way they are in iTunes on my compooter. The phone lists them alphabetically rather than chronologically. I have looked at the settings on the phone and also in iTunes and my relatively novice Apple eyes don't seem able to scan out how to change that. I'm wondering if it's a terminology issue. Maybe worded in a way I don't comprehend. Apple does have some interesting ways of describing things when you're an old MS/DOS man from the stone age. Any suggestions?

I think you can put them in order by the way you want. You'd have to make a separate playlist for each album, then put the albums in order. Then, you'd still have your main playlist that will be alphabetized. I would tell how, but the screen on my iPod is broken, so i don't even bother trying to order anything up.

Thanks anyway but that won't work for me. I have 463 albums on my iPhone. I can't make a playlist for each album. I want albums to show up chronologically when I am looking in the "Artist" view which is the main view that I use to find the music I want.

Oh, I pirate all of my music. I don't want to pay the $300 for the total amount of music I have. Plus, you get the good live versions.

LOL!!! I don't pirate.

99% of my music is ripped from CDs I already own. When you can buy albums for $9.99 from Amazon or other places, buying mp3s from iTunes doesn't make any sense.

Yah ... sorry.
Not gonna happen.
I don't pirate.
Maybe I'm just an old geezer from the stone age but I don't want any music on my phone that wasn't paid for.
Actually, to tell you the honest truth I derive a certain amount of pride from being able to say every song on my device is legit.
No offence intended. To each his own.

Hi BMW: let's be geezers from the stone age together then! I'm right with you on that.

Far as the original question is concerned... Just wading around in iTunes as we speak - and I can't even see how to make an artist's albums appear chrononlogically on the computer, far less on the iPod.

So that wasn't much use, was it? I don't seem to be a very Apple-minded person. Sorry.

Cheers - C

Lord, I feel so old... :(

From playing Runescape, ping is something to do with ordering, unless Runescape uses a different ping.

If you're using the iPhone 4S, just ask Siri to play the song that you're looking to hear. Siri does a wonderful job at that!

Ping is a messaging client on the iPhone, but iMessage is much better!

I can find the songs I want, my iTunes is very well organized, it's just a pet peeve of mine that the albums are not listed the same way on the phone as they are in iTunes.
I have Ping and I never use it. Regular old texting is about as savvy as I get with messaging. I do have a 4S-64 and I have heard of Siri but I've never tried it. New things from Apple like Siri and iCloud make me nervous. I currently have Siri and iCloud both turned off. How invasive is Siri and is it really any more functional?

In iTunes under library, click Music to display your music library. Then at the top left corner of the library pane click where it says, "Artist, ???" and select Artist by year. You can also select what size icons you want displayed in the library under that same menu.

I have another peeve about Itunes and Ipod.
"IF" your laptop crashes and you don't have a backup, Itunes will only retrieve the songs purchased through Itunes off of the Ipod. The other 250 mp3's are stuck on the Ipod and I can't get them back into my new laptop. Why would it kill Apple to let me do this?

That happened to me. A free program called SharePod was the answer. You have to de-authorize and uninstall iTunes first for it to work but it will retrieve all the songs on your iPod. Once the library is retrieved you simply install itunes again and add songs to your "new" iTunes library.

I repeat, SharePod and iTunes cannot coexist on the same computer. If you try you will lose all the songs from your iPod.
