I'm being serious when I say this. Ironic that you make a colon joke about me. When I was a baby, my lower intestines somehow got all flipped around. I was literally 'full of it' and could have died from it. Luckily my mom got me to the hospital in time and they operated and clamped my intestines back in place. I now have a 4 or 5 inch scar across my stomach (never measured it, maybe I should)

Nice try. Actually, the colon joke was about him.

Thanks for the Armidillo Bucks. Most I've earned in three years.

Django also came to my mind when you mentioned two finger playing...you probably have never listened to it but the song "Jessica" by the Allman Brothers was written by Dickey Betts and I've heard him say it and also seen it in interviews that he wrote the melody so it could be played with two fingers like Django would play, the song is named for his daughter...and yeah, you can use your index and middle finger and play all the notes in the melody.

Buxom: I'm no prise either in fact if the truth was known many in our number are not. Health is a big issue here. Many of the folks you chat with every day, are dealing with various forms of Cancer/Heart&Lung Disease/Muscular disorders & all kinds of things. Playing guitar is not easy, and for many it is very difficult. No one expects you to play like Bonamassa or Clapton. Just be your self and do the best you can. And take it from me, Playing slide with an open chord is a lot of fun. I think that's when I do my best work. I enjoy playing harmonica and singing. Sometimes when I put them all together and play it back I sound prity good. And that is all I want to do. Most importantly, don't boast about things that aren't true. Don't say hurtful things & if you have a controversial opinion about something Think it through. Sometimes it's best to keep it to your self. I'm certainly no expert but from what I can tell You have a lot to offer. Many of your posts make very good sense. Apology Accepted, And like the old guy said. (NOW SHOW ME).8)

Ahhh, thanks. I felt bad after I was out down because of 2 experimental recordings. I had never really played with clean before because the clean channel on my old amp sucked terribly. Now that I have a lot more options, I can play a lot more different things. I've made a few simple riffs with reverb and powerchords on clean and it's decently nice. But to get the full effect that I was after, I had to pluck pretty hard.

It doesn't feel right to fret with my right hand. I've tried it and the neck is just really unfamiliar to that hand.

Thank you. I have been wary of entering discussions, but with your apology I think I will start with this comment on my amps. Words really are powerful, but none so powerful as a sincere apology. I hope this turns some of the wrath away. Okay. My amps. I will have been playing guitar for exactly 50 years come Christmas. I have owned Harmony, Fender, Gibson and Marshall amps. After years of playing I have settled on two amps that I can carry to gigs and that sound great. I play blues and classic rock. My Super Reverb may still be my past favorite, but the two amps I use regularly, play hard, and get out of them what I want are the Super Champ XD and the Bandmaster VM. (The Super Champ also goes through the VM212 cab). These are two great sounding amps. After 50 years, I am still in love with the Fender sounds. My workhorse guitars are a 1992 '57 CS Strat made by Art Esparza, and a Gibson CS ES-330L. That's all I have to say. I love Fender amps. I'm thankful for Leo Fender who seems to have started quite a movement, and gave me a life full of hard rock and blues.

@Buxom: I'd be more than happy to see you on the good side. Please stop trolling with Missy SRV, it's really double trouble if you do that.

And remember: http://g.co/maps/bwgm2 why not visit Missy if you want to talk to him 8)

Cheers

David

I'm glad to have no idea what this thread is all about. But I'm pleased to have read it for this:

There are several southpaws who play right handed: Ceri (the Pasha of Peckham) and one of my bandmates are both leftys that play guitar "right" (pun intended).

And rather more significantly: Mark Knopfler, Gary Moore, Paul Simon, BB King and a helluvalot of others. If the first guitar you pick up is right-handed (and it usually is) then that's generally what you stick with.

Ten percent of all guitarists (and the population at large) are left handed. But only half of those play a left handed guitar.

Just to add to the comedy, Albert King was a left hander who played a right handed guitar strung for a right hander - upside down. And he's not the only one who did that, either.

I believe that the most obvious (spelling?) guitar player that played his Stratocaster "King" style is Jimi Hendrix.

And Buxom you are not the only one you had to "adjust" to this forum. Riley had his adjustment period and Ceri himself had to put me in my place when I was starting out on this forum  . Now if you are serious about not trolling or flaming with the other kid, I can finally start to respect your input on this great forum. :D

G'day Buxom, Yeah we're cool.
The things that irritated me were really pretty minor, it was mainly the attitude.
You seem to have had a shift of attitude,so good, we can now begin to build some respect.
Most of my thoughts have been covered by other posters. Things like open tunings and left handed playing are worth a try. I even thought you might make a pretty good Bass player (no offense meant to you or Bass players).
And Django Reinhardt ,well you've seen the hand he had to work with.
There was nothing mainstream about this guy. He performed in a Quintet - that's himself, two rhythm guitars, upright bass and a violin (Stephan Grapelli),no drummer -he didn't need one.

By the way, this not music from my youth. It's from the 30s when my Grandma was a young girl. My interest in music has taken me WAY back
Anyway, I just think you need to look beyond the things that people your age see as cool or uncool. We all have our favorite music but it's good to have an open mind.
You're amongst musicians here mate.

Hi Nonni: but the not so obvious difference is that Hendrix restrung his guitar for a left hander when he flipped it. Whereas Albert played his left handed but kept it strung for a right hander. So the treble strings were at the top, bass at the bottom. And that ain't easy!

Er... huh? Are you talking about a discussion about Iceland's banking debt a couple of years ago? If so, that was a friendly conversation: I'd hate to think anyone was being put in their place. Least of all you! You've always been one of the good guys right from the start. 8)

Cheers - C

Well the way I remember it there was some friendly reminder that the topic wasn't quite up to the forums etiquette (wow I had to google that one  :D )

Doyle Bramhall II is another lefty who plays an "upside down" guitar a la King (Albert, that is...) with the fat strings to the south and the skinny ones to the north.

My left-handed drummer plays guitar and bass right-handed, but plays drums Southpaw...since I don't know anything about drumming, I didn't realize there was a difference until I saw a right-handed drummer sit down at his kit...the look of confusion was priceless...of course, most drummers have a degree of confusion in their expression at all times anyway... :P

I play harmonica left-handed (sorta). I hold it upside down, with the bass notes to the right and the treble to the left. I never realized this until I had already been playing for several years, and was informed by an elderly bluesman, "You holdin' that harp backwards, son..."

I tried to correct my mistakenfor a while, but eventually said, "Screw it, it makes me unique." However, I recently discovered that Paul Butterfield did the same thing, too.
