My dad recently found an old Dual turntable that he got in England when he was in the air force. He's gonna help me clean it up and give it to me. Just need some speakers and I'll be able to set it up. Can't wait to start a record collection. Screw an iPod, you just can't beat the look and sound quality of a good collection of vinyls.

That's cool, I think it's fun to listen to records. Would be cool to have a nice collection.

Funny you should say that....At the moment I'm listening to....Silverhead a 1972 LP....Michael Des Barres old band which he fronted, sort of an earlier version of David Lee Roth..

And I just finished listening to Ronald Padanova's old Band....Elf ( Ronald Padanova aka Ronnie James Dio ) also 72 -73.

Might have to go dig up some old Jim ManGrum and the rest of the Black Oak crew...
Or perhaps a little Soft White Underbelly.....

I have a 1969-70 vintage Dual turntable in the original box and packing in the garage/shop. I was going through a bunch of old papers the other day and I found the original RECEIPT for the turntable that I bought when I was in Vietnam - had it shipped directly home and did not try to use it in-country. A friend was using it for a while, then boxed it up and waited for me to drop by (about 20 years!) and then he gave it back to me.

I still have most of my old 500+ vinyl albums, also in boxes (once a collector, always a collector). You can buy a lot of good old vinyl for just about nothing these days, but the newly released vinyl is priced way too high.

I bought a very nice USB turntable a couple of years back and started transferring a lot of my rarer old vinyl to my computers. Not everything made it to CD.

+1

I'm still waiting for the Jerry Hahn Brotherhood to make it onto disc.

Having a heck of a time trying to find an amp for the darn thing. Any suggestions for what to search for online? And how much would one cost do you think?

We had an old turntable from the eighties that had the split wires you ran to a surround sound system. Would something like that work? If so you can probably find plenty of speaker systems online...

Wish I could take a pic, so maybe I could explain it better... I'm not a good tech guy....

This one is from the early 80s I believe, maybe late 70s but I'll have to take a closer look at it. It still works as far as I can see. It spins at least. Won't know for sure though until I can actually hook it up to something.

I used to be a vinyl fan, still got the gear and some records. I went cd then back to vinyl for a while.

As for an amp if you want to be able to hear that tiny signal coming off the record you need a phono preamp. Some amps have em built in but modern systems dont usually have them included, so another option is to use a seperate stand alone preamp that then feeds into the line in socket. They start real cheap and then go up to "very expensive"! Cheapest in UK dosh would be about £50 i reckon.

Good luck
