I'm getting a second-handed Olympic white fender standard stratocaster from the year around 1990. Out of all the colors, the pure Olympic white is my favorite! BUT my only concern is.. does an Olympic "white" fender always going to turn "yellow" in the end? I've seen people who actually wants it to turn yellow, but definitely not me.. so is there any way, even when playing it often, to avoid it from turning yellow and let it stays the way it is in pure white? Also, I heard from a year they've developed a color that allows the white to stay and will not turn yellow even after a long time. Is this true? if it's true, does it include the white fender from the year around 1990? BTW, Maple Fretboard & Rosewood Fretboard, I personally like Olympic white fender standard strat with Maple Fretboard, and I'm just wondering, is the Maple fretboard any better or more expensive in price than the Rosewood fretboard?
I would really appreciate it if anyone could answer my question. THANK YOU : )

It's not a rule that olympic white will yellow. There are many factors that affect the coloring; the mixture of the paint, how it was applied and the environment it was kept in.

If the guitar is from 1980 and hasn't yellowed yet (30+ years), it probably never will.

Welcome to the Forum!

A lot of what happens to the color/finish of any guitar (especially lighter colors like Olympic White) depends on the environment in which you play it and your body chemistry.

If you smoke, or play your guitar in smoky bars a lot, it's more likely to yellow with age. The amount of sunlight the instrument will see can affect it, too.

Also, if your sweat is a particular pH, it will discolor the finish, too.

There are probably other factors, such as nitro vs poly (I don't know which type of finish is on the axe in question) that will affect how much discoloration occurs as well...I believe that nitrocellulose will discolor worse. If that's incorrect, I'm sure someone will come along and correct me.

PS: if you end up owning this instrument, we have an official unwritten rule: You gotta post a pic or it didn't happen! :)

+1 If you play out, it will likely yellow to some degree. Even my 63 Supro has yellowed some and it's made from fiberglass and the color is molded in. I sweat when I play and sometimes even the color from my shirt or pants will rub off some. I would just enjoy the patina.
