so yesterday me and floyd the barber were discussing on FB how annoying it is that i have never, and cant get a band started cause A; everyone in my area is a total douche B; the people who are into music, are into all the stupid pop metal bands and think 'im KewL cozz i SounnD HeaAvy!1!'.
So, an idea thats never crossed my mind, came to me. why not become one of themn solo dudes that play multiple instruments at once? you know, some foot percussion like tambourine, something that makes some sort of bass drum sound. cause really all i need is a drummer, an the beats are really easy, nothing fancy just to keep the time really. and obviously i could play guitar and sing.

opinions??

This is a great look.

Seriously though, a youngster like yourself should be able to master something a bit more high-tech (loops etc).
So many young musicians are in it for the image and lifestyle, not the love of music.

There's nothing worse than a bored drummer, bashing away while the musicians are trying to do an arrangement.
You don't need 'em mate. In the next few years you'll meet guys who take it as seriously as yourself.

Goodonya ....Mark.

why not. If you dont feel youve been able to find the sort of people you want in a band then finding a way to get out nstage playing whats in your head is probably the best way to try to attract them

Do it. I have a friend up north who plays publicly on his acoustic and mixes his own tracks at home. He's been playing guitar less than me, but he's got me beat when it comes to keyboard/synth and pipe organ :P

Invest in a loop station, a sub-octave or other such pitch shifter and a kick drum.

You'll need a rugged, durable laptop that can take some abuse and some reasonable quality recording gear and software to create your backing tracks. You'll also need one of these:

http://www.tc-helicon.com/products/voicetone-harmony-g-xt/

The Helicon is a must have for any solo or duo act. It's an amazing device that monitors your guitar playing to identify the key you're playing in, what chord you are presently playing and intelligently decides a harmony part for you and it sounds good too.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Hello Riley, I like every ones backing track idea too. Many major bands have used them over the years and you can concentrate on guitar/singing. It will sound like you have a band. The only Bro I have that uses them still is Matt Mercado of "Mind Bomb", "Supermercado", "Pivot Man" fame. When my drummer was with Matt in Mind Bomb back in 2003 he always complained about the backing track but that was because he had to do the controlling from a small console set up next his high hat stand lol. You're always getting better Bro and your band will come together. In the time until then backing tracks are a good substitute.
