On Friday I bought 3 sets of D'Addario EXL130 8-38 nickel wound guitar strings at Reid Music in Mt. Pearl,NL for $15.95 and found that to be about the cheapest around even lower than the national chain store we have here.I was wondering how much people with access to music mega-stores pay for their strings.

I usually buy Fender 150s and at $5.35 per set (Axe Music) it's right about the same as what you're paying give or take a few pennies.

What brand/gauge do you get for $3 on e-bay and are they any good?

Ernie Ball Custom 9/42. I forgot the seller, but a single pack was $3.00. They last me about 3 months before they start to corrode heavily.

I shop around til I find the lowest price. I don't buy Fender Super Bullets unless they are close to $4.00 per pack, shipped. $3.00 shipped would be cool.

I just got Godin A6 XLT phosphor bronzes for $5.79 shipped (free shipping on orders over 35, ...stringsandbeyond), which is cheap for those strings!

I go with Ebay like an earlier poster.
I get 3 sets of D'Addario XL for about $10 shipped.

Just bought 12x Ernie Ball Regular Slinky 10-46 Strings for USD 53.00 on eBay. So it's 4.40 USD for a pack. They cost 15 USD in my local guitar shop.

Cheers

David

+1
At any given time I'll have at least a dozen sets of electric and a dozen sets of acoustic in the house plus I keep one set in every guitar case for emergency use if I'm out somewhere as well as 2 sets of electric and a set of acoustic in my gig suitcase. I am never without the ability to change strings when ever or where ever I want.
