I would have to say Green Day is better, but I'm laughing at those who are saying either of those are punk.

Maybe in their early days GD was punk, but now it's nothing but pop, and I would classify MCR as either pop-goth or goth-pop-emo.

Punk should be about change and revolution, not "i wasn't popular in high school and my grandma died, so I'll write an album to cry about it" like Gerard.

Punk hasn't been punk since New Wave watered it down in the early 80's. Nothing since has been angry enough, political enough to be Punk.

Theres just been a whole year of riots and squatings here in DK, as a house that had been the nerve center of the punk movement since the 80's was evicted and demolished by a Christian fundamentalist group (the leader was sent by god to clean up the neighborhood  ) and danish hardcore punk is very well thriving in the underground as well as militant political activists. I also know theres still quite a big punk movement in at least northern europe (not based on pop-punk but PUNK)
it's not my choice of music though
Not sure how much of it made it to the internatinal news :x

Yeah, now thats punk. I haven't heard a thing on American news. Of course American new organizations don't consider Europe to be newsworthy. We talk global here, but can't see past America.

Yup, I know :)
Theres even an hippie sort of community that have survived since '73 in the heart of Copenhagen http://www.christiania.org/, but it's threatened by normalization and legalization  Sad thing is, nowadays theres constantly police patrols out there trying to stop the hash-sales, they search ppl without a reason and are violent , wasn't like that a few years ago
If any one on this forum should by some strange reason come by Denmark be sure to spend a day at Christiana :D

I hate to see people say that. You need to listen to Rise Against, Anti-Flag, or Against Me.

They're all VERY politically charged and very outspoken.

That would be cool. We could get him a badge with a Fender logo on it!
Seriously though, he is right. Threads like these are getting tired...

I'll start oout by saying I don't care for MCR (although that video with the dancing corpse was a riot) I would go with green day, but even then with thier early work. American idiot spelled sellout city to me.
