I have to admit Strat-o-Tele.../ IMSRV../ has actually finally posted a thread we can work with...

It makes me think just how far people will go believing the hype, myth and absurdities of the vintage guitars....
Yes an unspoiled ( Grishnak ) vintage Strat is valuable to a musician as well as more so to a collector, however once past the point of no return as a viable musical instrument, it really becomes an exercise in fleecing someone for junk....
I know the purists are going to be screaming from the ramparts, but there is a certain point where an instrument ceases to be just that and becomes a.... :?: Conversation Piece... :?: It certainly cannot be used as furniture, so it's value is entirely ethereal or intangible since I would not pay 5 figures for a guitar that is unplayable, in need of serious rehab and is worthless ( in the market ) if repaired.
So if disposable income is not a factor than....or hypothetically is not a variable, meaning the rescources are not available to purchase at those elevated figures.....
Where would a market actually price a vintage guitar when it has to account for it's value as a playable musical instrument, one that can be used today, tonight at a gig... :?:

It would be an interesting exercise to really find the actual intrisic value and it's cap....Not the perceived value which to me is what drives the vintage market prices...

Any one get my Tangent and comment or rebut... :?:

Looking over the close up pics from the nut and the truss end adjust, that is a one piece neck not capped.
It also looks like whichever body it was mated to at one time, someone had a Floyd roes or similar getup with the locking nut contraption. So much for value....

That is a neck I would rapidly attempt to Lose....
Though as it is well seasoned, my wood stove does need kindling.....

I do see the lines between the neck and cap. Look carefully at the pic from the side with the closeup of the nut. See the change in wood grain? There is a faint line there. You can also see a line where the neck and fret board join on pics of the butt of the neck. Notice too that there is no skunk stripe.

No disagree, there is no line there at the nut/1st fret area, the grain has not been separated, as for down past the 21st fret at the butt end ( ) I believe those marks are more of a result of the body edge than anything else.
Look closely at the pic, you can see the band saw marks running undisturbed from edge of fretboard to edge of pocket...No the truss rod in this was inserted lenghtwise thru the neck, not from the top than capped.....

Also from the butt-end ( ) the grain clearly shows that it is uninterupted and it was quartersawn....
If this neck had been sliced, there would be a visible line, the pores and figuring on the neck close to the fretboard would be off. Even in book matched pieces of the highest quality, there is always a demarcation line, since the saw blade cuts away the wood, it cannot be replaced and that blade width is missing when the two pieces are reglued.

At this point I think we shall agree to disagree on whether it is capped or uncapped, and agree that it is a piece of crap neck.

The Sorry Tale of a 68 neck that was squeezed once to often, it's demise was to be relegated to the ignoble Service of a Squier.......

dude, that's stupid. i'm not exactly what you'd call smart in the area of the mechanics of guitaring, but Ray Charles can see that's a POS.

That neck is a total POS. Just cause it's old don't make it good. There isn't any bolt on neck worth that kind of coin even if Leo mad it himself! I hope you're not another person with more money than brains. Sometimes I fall into the same category with photo gear.

I don't think Strat-O-Tele is that liquid to purchase that neck....Could be the Squier Thinga-ma-Jingy.....

I'm sure Hendrix's Strat was a maple cap (the one at Woodstock that he used) and he had no problems with it. Sure that neck i found might be whiplashed nbut it coult be a cool display piece. Anyway i was thinking of buying maybe a used CP 60s neck or maybe a CP 50s neck and put THAT on my other guitar a SX Strat copy

I'm relatively certain that he's possessed of neither.

That's been up there for months. It probably wouldn't sell until it's under $1000. Buy a 67 RI neck if you want capped w/ maple board. They're probably $250-$350.
