Why on earth would you want that thing. It looks like the dog has chewed it. Not a lot of life left in it.

Avoid.

Don't be daft mate. For $5000 you could buy a good guitar and a hell of a lot of lessons.

That neck is going to do nothing for your sound other than make you more out of tune than you are now.

Don't waste your money. You're Squier/SX/Whatever guitar is more than good enough for where you are at as a player.
Why not just settle down a bit fella, chill out, enjoy the guitar and whatever bit of money you have. You're only a kid. Theres better things to be worrying about than CBS necks at your age.

A few lessons wouldn't go amiss. For anyone, not just you.

i am having lessons. Should i get a Malmsteen neck then because that neck feels comfertable in my hands but i dont mind my Affinity's neck. its LIKE the CBS guitar necks and has great sound and stays in tune most of the time in heavy tremolo use

Stick with what you have, and learn your skills first. Better gear will not make you a better player. You already have better gear than I had at the time I played my first gig, so be thankful for modern cheap but reasonable gear!

Not to mention sticking a '68 neck on an Affinity Strat would be like putting a dog in a dress. Not putting down the Affinities, of course - I have one sat at home for a general messing around guitar while most of my others generally stay at the studio. If I'd had that to learn on many years ago, I'd have been the happiest kid in the world!

Why would you believe that a 68 maple neck will improve your tone and playing by leaps and bounds.. :?:  :?:

I can cruise around on a Ducati Desmo but it will not make me Carl Fogarty.
If you had a complete original 68 (minus a playable neck ) then perhaps it would make sense to buy a replacement neck from the same era...
However since that neck has been refretted and is in exceedingly poor condition, I very much doubt the ask bid is realistic on the vintage market. But you don't need a vintage strat. garbage in is garbage out regardless of the instrument.
BTW there is no such thing as a maple cap neck in the Fender line, there is a Rosewood or ebony capped neck, but the maple necks are one piece, truss rod inserted thru the back of the neck, hence the skunk stripe.

As other's suggest you really need to focus on some serious woodshedding rather than pie in the sky this or that will make me a better player.
I would suggest reading the two recently published books on SRV, " The early Years " and it's follow up. It is a sobering ( no puns intended ) chronology of his life and what it took to get to where he was, or more to the point just how difficult it is to reach that plateau.
It definitely isn't for everyone and juxtaposing yourself into your hero's is leaving out a large part of reality.
You can never become someone else and aspiring to be a clone is a waste of your life and the time you have. Find your own statement based on who you are, not what someone else is.

Food For thought.....How ridiculous do the Elvis Impersonators look...... :?:

That neck looks like it has been seriously WET! Avoid it like the plague!!!

Use the guitars you have now and learn to play, hone your skills.

53magnatone:

'68 and '68RI necks do have a maple cap fretboard.

Looking over the close up pics from the nut and the truss end adjust, that is a one piece neck not capped.
It also looks like whichever body it was mated to at one time, someone had a Floyd roes or similar getup with the locking nut contraption. So much for value....

That is a neck I would rapidly attempt to Lose....
Though as it is well seasoned, my wood stove does need kindling.....

I do see the lines between the neck and cap. Look carefully at the pic from the side with the closeup of the nut. See the change in wood grain? There is a faint line there. You can also see a line where the neck and fret board join on pics of the butt of the neck. Notice too that there is no skunk stripe.

I see what you're saying mate. It reminds me a bit of Lonely Boy. Almost like that headstock is painted. And I like you don't see a clear line for the capped fretboards join to the neck.

Fake. Far too hinky dai dai to be certain. Too expensive and overly worn.
