Okay, I haven't been on in a while, well, minus the thread about my new Tele I got earlier today, and I need some help.
I got my first electric guitar today, I got a Telecaster, but I'm not sure what kind of amp to get. i have a little Ibanez amp my little sister got when she got her guitar (which now has film of dust on it you couldn't scrape off with a knife. smh.), so I have something to work with for now, but I want a good amp, but i'm not sure what to go with. my dad and I made a deal that he'd get me a good amp if I got the guitar. well, in all of the traffic of Black Friday today, we didn't want to go anywhere near Guitar Center, because it's close to the mall. anyways, what kind of amp should I be lookin' for? what's the difference between a tube amp and a regular one?
please and thanks,
Tessa

Has pretty much every effect imaginable built in and 3 channels. Clean, medium dirty, and full mud. Somehow, I blended the 2 dirties once, but I forgot how. I picked mine up from a friend for $100.

My nice amp is my Fender Mustang II. Nice tones for my church band.

It sounds like you,re just getting started and may not have found what your music style and type may be. I’ve been learning now for about 2 years and I’m on my 3rd amp and soon on to my 4th. I started out with a Crate 15 watt I found on Craigslist. It worked well but I couldn’t find the sound I was looking for. I found a Marshall DFX 15 that got me what I wanted. I then came across the G-DEC 3 Fifteen and I’m very happy with it. With all the possibilities, different styles (blues, country and rock) that you can convert the amp to, it would be hard not to find the sound you’re looking for. Add the internal memory, adding your SD card with the backing tracks you are into and the ability to record your music, this is the practice amp that will get you on your way to playing well quickly.
Like I said, I’m moving on to my 4th amp and I’m waiting for my G-DEC 3 Thirty to arrive next week. Although I have not played with the thirty yet, I’m sure it’s what I will stick with for a long time. I don’t gig, I just fool around and jam with a few friends so it will be all I need, loudness wise.
Once you get your style and sound down and know what you really want, you can spend the big bucks for a tube amp that will give the true sound an electric guitar can produce to your likings.
So the short answer from me is… Fender G-DEC Thirty, right now at $299, a price well worth everything that amp can do.

Good luck with your choice, like everything, buy the best you can afford.

ERIK

For on the go play, get a Marshall MS-2. Look up demos on YT. I just got one on eBay for $19 and some change, brand new.

The Fender G-Dec and Mustang amps are quite versatile and have great bang for the buck.Vox and Marshall have great modelling amps in their Valvetronix and Valvestate amps respectively and the beauty of them is that besides solid state electronics they also have 12AX7 tubes in their power amps and preamps respectively that gives them a more realistic tube tone.To answer your question about what's the difference between a tube amp and regular amp, well since tube amps have been around the longest and solid state amps didn't gain any real popularity until the 70s,then tube amps would be what is looked on as regular amps.

I think the best thing you can do is go try a bunch of amps out at your local music store, that will give you a way better idea of what you like rather than "reading about" which is best suited for your needs. :) That said if you intend to stick with it there is definitely something to behold in hearing a tele push a tube amp into harmonic heaven!

Hi Tessa.

Though you already have an amp, you're after another. Presumably to get a sound that you like.

Well the question is, what is that sound?

These things sound great at home and won't upset the old folks too much.

I got the VibroChamp XD. It's more than loud enough for home. A lot of people here have the SuperChamp XD. They all seem to love their amps too.
They don't cost a fortune and provide good value for money. I've a selection of amps, big Marshall stacks, a little vintage thing, a small modern valve amp. Even one I built myself. Yet at home I always find myself going back to that little VibroChamp. A lot of different sounds for a small box that don't cost a lot and doesn't weigh too much.

Thanks all!
I think you're right, just take my guitar up to Guitar Center and try her out on diffrent amps. I'd still kinda like to know what I'm lookin' at before hand.
Thanks! (:

I'd seriously recommend trying out a Blackstar HT-5R or a HT-1R.

I have the HT-5R Half Stack....
