I think of scenarios like that all the time. But my mom was fighting a blizzard with racing slicks. It was terrible. It took us about 2 hours to get home when the drive would normally take 25 minutes.

My son put his first automobile, a Dodge Stealth, up on the sidewalk 6 weeks after he first took possession of it. Lost control on a wet road. Low profile tires do not do well under those conditions unless operating at well reduced speeds.

Wow, I actually kind of want a Firebird like my mom's. That was a fun car.

On this evenings news they showed film of car crashes that took place during the storm and lo and behold the most common vehicles that were $@!& up in a ditch were SUVs and 4X4s.It never ceases to amaze me the number of people who buy these machines and think that they are now capable of driving in any weather at top speed and you see it every single year after the first snow fall, the all terrain vehicles-a lot of brand new ones-that meet an untimely death on the roads.I've owned quite a few 4X4s over the years and have driven them all with the caution and respect that they are due.Even though a 4X4 can be a real boon to road travel it can turn around and bite you on the arsse pretty quick if you drive it beyond its limitations or capabilities. What it all boils down to in the long run is that you have exactly the same amount of rubber in contact with the road as the Ford Fiesta next to you and you won't stop or corner any faster.
