ok i am very upset! out of nowhere the truss rod is buzzing like crazy when I hit the open a string and several chords. its not the nut because I can feel it in my hand at the top of the headstock fairly strong. i have never encountered this before what should be done about it? is the neck going to have to be replaced? I love this guitar and I have already swapped pickups and put in some callaham parts.

If it was bought new I would be inclined to take it back to dealer. But as you ve modded it, that will affect the warranty I would think.
I got my 62 hot rod last Thursday. Developed a severe fret lifting problem in 4 days. Returned it and should be getting a replacement tommorow.
I asked a question in the stratocaster section regarding fenders policy and Rob cleared it up. Also said that in some cases the neck will be replaced. Depending on each case individually.

Truss rod buzzing? If the truss rod is loose, a simple turn to slightly tighten the adjustment screw might solve that.

If it were the truss rod why would you feel it at the top of the headstock and not on the back of the neck?

Sounds like a machine head loose to me.

I didn't explain correctly, its not felt as much on the actual head stock. I meant the head stock end of the neck. like if I place my hand anywhere between the nut and 4th fret I can feel it in my hand fairly strong. I tried tightening the rod a quarter turn this morning and it got worse and now there is zero neck relief..... tightening it only changed the frequency of the buzz... almost like when you increase the tension on the string. its kinda like the rod is tuned to A  and if I pull back on the neck a little I can hear the rod moving and rubbing around inside the neck up at the top. I have never encountered this before :?

will new pickups and bridge parts affect the warranty on the neck?

I thought any mods invalidate a warranty. Be it from a car to a lawn mower.
Will be in the small print in the case candy if you have it.

it isn't really clear to me..... it states that the hardware and pickups/wiring are only covered for one year, but the rest of the guitar is covered indefinitely. I dunno I guess I will just take it to the fender Dr

Tightening the rod won't do anything on that guitar except force a straight neck. Those truss rods only work one way, to counteract the natural bow of the neck caused by the string tension. Tighten to straight, loosen to bow.
If the rod were broken you'd have excessive bow.
Also that truss rod is fairly well anchored at the nut end of the neck.

It is entirely possible that you could have broken the thread at the anchor by exerting too much force. If so no warranty will cover it.

Best get your neck x-rayed

well I played it again last night and the buzzing was gone... so I dunno whats going on :? if it starts again I will have to take it in to a tech. and from looking at the images of the vintage rod, It feels like the block at the head stock end of the neck is loose or something. maybe the cavity was routed to large? :?

also where the heck do you get your guitar neck x-rayed? I would like to do that.
