I'm going to go with Ace on this one. Soooo incredible. My mom and I having our own disagreement about this and she goes with EVH. What do you guys think?

BTW, I know that both these guitarists are legends in their times but the better overall player can still be decided.

Eddie is the more proficient technical player, but if I were starting a band tomorrow, I would probably choose Ace first. He can sit back and rock as a member of a band, as opposed to EVH's penchant for being front & center constantly.

One more vote for Ace.

Umm...in my original post I was squaring Eddie with the Ferrari, for those keeping score. Love the comments! I did like Frehley, hell, you can't not like a cat making a superstar living out of the same three chords for.30+ years! So, maybe Ace wins in the "Opportunist" category.

eddie, he didn't have to put on makeup and light a fire inside his guitars to excite people but i still respect ace. i liked kiss before the tv show(the sellout). i like van halen any time... well except v.h. 3(that sucked).

For me, I'm going to have to say it's a dead heat tie as I cannot stand listening to either one for any prolonged period of time.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

Surprisingly I don't go hands down on this one.......

As for playing? Both EVH and Ace are known for one thing/technique. Ed's tapping and Ace's relentless use and repetition of the Pentatonic. Both of them based their careers on the one thing they did and they did well.

When it comes to playing in a band, if you listen to things said about both of them by former bandmates they're both difficult to handle on a personal level. Crazy in their own ways.

Ed's technique probably shows more proficiency but Ace's has more variety in its sound, in my opinion anyway. Both are self taught and I'd be happy to play as well as either of them.

The decision maker for me, I just like more KISS songs then VH songs, I really lost interest in VH after Dave left.
