Hey there everyone,
I've encountered a strange problem this past month. I have gone through 5 packs of strings so far, GHS BOOMERS TNT (10-52), and Iam starting to believe there may be a bad batch floating around Houston. SO here's the story: I decide to re-string my Jazzmaster because we had an upcoming show, and as soon as I tune her up, as start doodling, the high E broke at the ball end. BUMMER! Well, I just pack up the Strat and head out to practice. Wel, the strings were a little dull, so I restrung, and guess what happened. Yep, same as the JM, high E broke, same spot and same time. Long story short, after 2 more packs, which had the same high E issue, I had to string the JM just before the show this past saturday, after the first....."POP" high E broke! Is there anyone else dealing with this? I tried to get in touch with GHS to voice me concerns, and maybe get a little compensation for my woes, we'll see if they get back.

Hey Mac,

well in the 20 years of playing, I've never had this problem. I used to use the regular boomers (10-42) but switched to the TNT's to get a thicker sound. As far as moving up a guage, I'm a bit bend-crazy and the bigger guage just kill my fingers. It seems as if the ball end is not up to code or something.

rock and or roll,
Bob-o

Bizzare, they're breaking. I don't understand it. 3 different guitars and the same issue. My other guitar player had the same thing happen to him twice, in the same time period. I think there is a tainted batch.

that is odd. something must have reduced the integrity of the steel at the ball end. it might be a mechanical error in the machine used to wind the ends. maybe the tension is set to high causing to much strain while wrapping them. have you contacted them about it? if it is this common of a problem they should do a recall. or at least replace your strings.

can you post a photo of the exact spot they are breaking I am very curious

Bizzare, I've contacted them but have yet to get a response. I'll try to get a photo up soon. It is a very strange thing indeed.

Mac, I've only had the normal break occur, ie: old strings, playing too hard, bending beyond. But, I have never had a brand new string break as soon as I tune to pitch. I'll check out my guitars when I get home. The jazzmaster should be easy to see, but the 2 strats may need a little trickery. I have a tele equipped wth a bigsby, the strings on there are about 4 months old. I'm scared to restring now, however, it keeps getting bumped back to the top of the rotation now. Perhaps it's the curse of my tele dubbed "the evil-caster" Here's a shoddy photo of the herd.

I use their Flat wounds no problems with them.
