The only time that the "X" is available at the bottom of your post, to delete your own post, is when no one has yet responded. Once your post receives a response, the "X" is gone and you can then only edit your post. I suppose that the moderators can still delete a post anytime if they want.

Notice that when you first post, there is an exclamation point (to report a post) and an X (to delete your own post) at the bottom of your post. After a response the X disappears, and the exclamation point is still there. You can't see mine, but I have the X that will be gone after someone responds.
