Malmsteen
Keith Richards
Slash
Townshend
Robby Krieger

SHORT VERSION OF THE GAME: Who is more like Hendrix--Kravitz or Prince?

I'm not participating, because I lack the knowledge to give a credible opinion. I want to see you guys' opinion. A scale of 1 to 100 gives us some wiggle room for precision. Better than 1 to 10. Do you rate Hendrix 100 while Prince is only 80? Or is Prince a 95? Or a 62? What about Satriani types, who you guys think are "soulless"? I think this could be a fun thread.

Hendrix 100
Clapton 85
SRV 100
Santana 100 he plays so sexy
Prince 95
John Mayer 80
Lenny Kravitz 80
Jack White 80
Billy Corgan 79
Joe Satriani 79
Malmsteen 76
Keith Richards 87
Slash 60 ($@!& him)
Townshend 88
Robby Krieger 84

Ok you asked for it...

Hendrix 70...great song writer, but sloppy player
Clapton 100...the true yardstick to which ALL are measured
SRV 90...like him alot, but tire of his playing after a couple hours
Santana 90...Smooth just about covers it!
Prince 85...like his playing just wish he would lose all the stage theatrics crap
John Mayer 40...decent blues technique, but he needs the taste to go along with it
Lenny Kravitz 75...Funky and lots of fun, not a great player but fun to listen to
Jack White 0...shouldn't even be on this list
Billy Corgan 10...see comment above
Joe Satriani 80...the only shredder with taste and a nice melodic feel
Malmsteen 0...this is what happens when technique overides taste
Keith Richards 70...not much technique, but sure can write and play a hook.
Slash 50...ehh, decent but just doesn't do much for me
Townshend 70...not a great player, but when you invent windmilling you get a pass
Robby Krieger 0...See Jack White comment

By the way you missed a couple...
Duane Allman 98...the ONLY one capable of pushing Clapton
George Harrison 90...tasteful, soulful, and the other half of slide playing 101
Jeff Beck 97...probably the best technique out there and the taste to go along with it
Gary Richrath 85...way underated, great technique, great songwriter, never got his due
Roy Buchanon 85...listen to him play and tell me you don't like it, I dare you
Ritchie Blackmore 85...come on the first song you learned was Smoke on the Water

T2

This is purely subjective and 100 different people will give you 100 different answers.I think however for technical prowess that Jimi would rate 100 hands down because he was such an innovator and took electric guitar playing off on an entirely different tangent.I don't think that many would argue that point,as for the rest it will be a free for all.

I wish I had the time to go through all of this, but I just wanted to point out that I think David Gilmour should be on this list. For his always understanding what's appropriate for a song, never failing to paint a perfect picture with his solos concerning the mood of whatever song it is, and performing masterfully time and time again, I'd give him a 100 any day of the week.

Neither is even close to his league.

The closest to Hendrix I've seen is Uli John Roth (Ulrich Roth from The Scorpions), Stevie Ray Vaughn and maybe a little Frank Marino.
