Logically, this should be posted in Squier Bass Guitars (which I'll post this there too) but I figured more of us 'regulars' would see it here. Having said this, knowing how much we love pictures, submitted for your collective approval is my recently bartered, outstanding condition, 1996 Squier Pro Tone P-J Bass made in the Samick (Korea) factory. These were only made from 1996 to 1998 and quickly discontinued as they were severely cutting into US Fender bass sales. Clearly, I can see why and why they are slowly but surely becoming collectible. The only non-OEM items are of course, the strings and I installed a ‘period correct‘ set of Dunlop Straploks and a Switchcraft output jack. The only ‘custom’ work I did other than a complete setup to my specs was to wire a dummy coil in series with the J pickup. Since the P pickup is already humbucking, it seemed rather ridiculous and irritating to only have half a humbucking circuit. As most know, it has to be completely one or the other with me. And no, the dummy coil made no discernable attenuation of highs to the J pickup as I calibrated the DC resistance of the dummy coil beforehand. Worth mention is the fact that both the P and J pickups have OEM Alnico V magnets for polepieces. Note that a lot of what seems to be blemishes in the pictures are flash anomalies from my lousy picture taking. Enjoy!

Looks good - the whole Squier Pro Tone series are more than decent. IMO.

Very nice bass indeed.

I can certainly understand that the Squier would have cut into Fender's sales. I mean, I have 2 Musicmaster basses, and I guarantee that my Squier is better built then my Fender.

Thanx for sharing.

Nice little bass you scored Martian!

What else was produced in the ProTone series?

I have several guitars from the Squire Vista series - Japanese Squiers. I think they are pretty sweet guitars. I've got the MusicMaster Bass, and the Venus in both 6 and 12 string. Still looking for the JagMaster and the Super-Sonic. Nice ones are selling for double and up their original price.

Thanks, Ricky!

To be perfectly honest, I'm really not that up on them. I know there was another P Bass with some kind of soapbar pickup and I believe a Strat and Tele run. One of the unique things about my bass too is that the neck is of Jazz Bass dimensions.

As has been said so many times before, the, "Gear Snobs" are missing out on a lot of outstanding instruments.
