Does Your Favorite Guitar Have a Compound Radius?
Poll ended at Sat Dec 03, 2011 1:41 pm
Yes, and I wouldn't play anything else 18%  18%  [ 2 ]
Yes, but a regular 9.5" radius such as on the American Standard Strat is just fine too 18%  18%  [ 2 ]
No, but I would if I could afford a guitar that had one 36%  36%  [ 4 ]
No, because that's completely unnecessary 18%  18%  [ 2 ]
I would not be caught dead with a Strat like the Deluxe strat that "updates" it with modern features because the Standard Strat is what a "Strat" is all about 9%  9%  [ 1 ]

I'd like to try one, it seems like a fairly sensible idea.

It does (9.5"-14"), as well as an asymetrical neck.
Easier to shred and no chockes on the upper register.
That being said, I guess my dream guitar would have a compound radius of 7.25"-9.5".

It has a Modern C profile. Asymetrical is Gibson Standard.

I'm trying to understand why the American Deluxe Strat series exists if the Standard Strat is already so great.

Thanks for playing.

:?:

A 9.5 neck is a happy medium, the idea of the compound is to make bending easier as the neck flattens out (larger radius), less chance of fretting out and less buzz. The sharper turn (smaller Radius) makes for easy chording which is why vintage 7.5 necks are good for chording but bending with out buzz and achieve a nice low action at the same time!
All about comfort, Play a Jackson guitar horrible!12" to 16" just not for me!

Assymetrical is how it is described by Fender and who am I to argue?

My strat has a 7.5" radius, my tele has a 9.5" radius, and before that I had a Jackson RR1 with a compound radius board. I found out that a good setup matters way more than fretboard radius ever will.

That being said, the Am. Deluxe exists for those who want a contoured heel, modern pickups and switching configuration, modern tremolo system, etc... Not everybody wants that stuff on a strat, so that's why they make both it and the standard.

My apologies. I've never seen the modern C described as asymmetrical before. I just checked mine and I can see that the high point might be slightly off center. It's hard to see and I don't feel it. Interesting. Here's the page I used when I bought mine, and it doesn't mention that point. http://www.fender.com/products/american ... dNo=011900

I didn't vote because there was no option for, "I never tried one so I don't have an opinion.... Yet."

My 1995 American Standard have countoured hell, modern tremolo too.
Fender regularly changes the characteristics of his guitars.

It is difficult to speak of a model without mentioning the year. One can hardly generalize. The American Standard has long been a modern tremolo. This is either a recent vintage.
What I like most of my American Deluxe are the locking tuner.
For the original pickups that I do not like , I've replaced.

You're totally right, the specs call it a modern C shape, in all models descriptions. Only the presentation page says assymetrical. It is the first time I have seen the term used, too. Oh, well!

I'm with you BMW as I've not tried one yet so I can't vote.
