Hi all i am a new member not sure if i am doing this right but here goes. I have just bought a strat with two serial numbers off ebay it was listed as made to look like a fender but not a fender but it is a very good copy if it is. I have checked the serial number on the front of the headstock and it tells me it was made in mexico, but a second serial number on the back of the headstock tells me it was made in the usa. the headstock is lacquered and look professorial has any body see 1 of these before or can you give me any advise. cheers wal

Nobody wanted to break the bad news to you. Fender would never put two different serial numbers in two different places on a neck. And if a seller says "this is a copy made to look like a Fender, not a real Fender" you can pretty much trust that.

If you post pics (or a very thorough verbal description) we might be able to give you more information.

I'd like to see some pictures of the front and the back. Just to see it.

If you could post some pictures of the guitar it would be helpful.

if you knowingly purchased a fake fender why bother checking the serial numbers? its fake that's why there are 2.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

None of this is snobbery. Some "fakes" are as high quality as the real thing -- sometimes even better. A lot of fakes are dreadfully poor quality, but not all. Many people think that an exact Strat copy doesn't look quite right without the Fender logo so they slap a decal on their Tokai or Warmoth and then spray lacquer on top. Whether that's morally acceptable is a topic that gets debated often, but right or wrong it happens a lot. Those people are usually upfront that it's not a real Fender -- they aren't doing it to try to get more money or to fool anyone, they just think it's a part of the overall design of the guitar. People like that will often add something that makes it obvious that it's not real, like putting two conflicting serial numbers on it.

Of course, that's also the sort of glaring error that shows up on counterfeit fraudulant cheap POS copies that are trying to rip people off. Without pics or a very detailed description there's no way for us to tell you what you've got.

We ignored this post not because we're snobs -- there just wasn't much of anything to say other than what the seller told you up front.

Even though the seller acknowledge it's a fake it still shouldnt have the Fender decal on. I report quite a few of those fake strats to eBay, they should be quicker to remove those misleading postings before some unsuspected buyer gets taken, and FMIC should make sure eBay removes them promptly...

You should go to the "made to look like a fender forum". They will have all the information on that guitar.
