I saw this supersized talent several times as a teen. More rhythm and blues than blues an honorable mention for his smokin' band. At over 400 lbs. wearing a red silk suit he was a colossal front man (this is a recording of his band covering "California Dreamin'", not exactly a blues standard lol):

Vino is a cool gentleman for sure, I was working camera #1 for a live cable TV show he and his band were on back in the day and it was a pleasure, not like work at all:

Tommy Ashe and my drummer hanging out at the pawn shop. Tommy is a very good blues guitarist and has played with many of the great Chicago bluesmen.

Jr Wells song as far as I can tell. I like most of the versions, from Rory Gallagher and Kid Rock to the late great Freddie King, but, Jr owns this. Mr wells could probably play and sing this in his sleep. One two you know what to do:

who is that guitarist?

Back in the mid 70s our local Uni was blessed with a student council entertainment committee that was comprised of all blues aficionados and consequently we were treated to some of the most incredible blues oriented concerts ever.In a 2 year period we had Rory Gallagher,Roy Buchannan and 3 of my all time blues heroes Howlin' Wolf,Willie Dixon and Muddy Waters.

The night that Howlin' Wolf played, myself and 8 or 9 of my buddies were the earliest in the line up and grabbed all the front row centre seats. We were all blues die hards and had been smoking some herbal compounds to get ourselves nice and mellowed out. Anyway he came out on stage and just tore the place apart and had the whole crowd in total awe. When he was singing "Sittin' On Top Of The World" he gazed down on the front row and saw all these young white faces covered with tears rolling down their cheeks, that seemed to have really touched him because he gave us all a most benevolent and affectionate smile that told us that he was really glad that his music had touched us so deeply.

I love all blues whether it's the Chicago blues of Muddy Waters,Howlin' Wolf etc. or if it's the old Mississippi Delta blues of Robert Johnson,Ledbelly, etc. or the Beale St. blues of Memphis Slim,Gatemouth Brown et al.All the blues has a common denominator and that is it's honest emotion that comes from the soul of the singer and touches the heart of the listener.

If you play that video out to the end, an index will display and you'll find one of Buddy in 1969. His look and sound have evolved with age.

Yah!...and in the U.S. they were referred to as 'race records'. It took the Brits to wake us up to our own cultural heritage.

Pet peeve - skip if you don't like grammar lectures:
Say "... that comprised all blues aficionados ..." or "...that consisted of all blues aficionados ..."
(You wouldn't say "was contained of", so you shouldn't say "was comprised of" either.)

I don't think that's entirely true. Much of the blues is heartfelt and emotional, yes, but not all. I sure listen to a lot of blues that isn't - ZZ Top, for example.

Or ...

Grammar compromised it appears. Der Grammarfuhrer has struck again.
