Back in '76 I came home from the service and hooked up with a young guitar player who just had some serious blues chops. When I asked him about it he told me he went to this little basement club called the Kingston Mines. So I asked him to take me. Imagine my surprise at being the only two white guys in the place, talk about nervous. However, one of the waitresses recognized Brian and sat us at a table near the front.

Musically the nights we went there were some of the most amazing times of my life. I saw all the greats there, BB, Muddy, Buddy, Gatemouth Brown, Koko Taylor, man they just packed them in.

The place didn't quite have the same vibe when they moved it. But now we have Buddy Guy's Legends and that place smokes as well.

And ya, ALL of my licks came out of there, even as a bass player I knew "the truth" when I heard it.

Terry Kath and Peter Cetera worked well together. Chicago is still awesome today. I wish Terry was still around. It would be interesting seeing which musical highways he would have traveled since back then. Hendrix realized how great of a guitar dude Terry was. So did the rest of us with ears back then.
