Adding to SBLS' fine opener, Chicago is SO FARKING BIG, there are thousands of musicians playing hundreds of venues.

There is a likelihood you will hear nigh on any-blues-flavour, in this here mega-opolis.

Simple, melodic, hot, folky, fusion, delta, semi-funk, traditional, acid blues...

...then you get to the next street.

Not only do you hear that influence on Clapton in the Beano recordings, but his first solo CD is drenched in Freddie King tone. Was nice that the two got to work together.

"Vietcong Blues" - Junior Wells' Chicago Blues Band
From the album Chicago: The Blues Today, vol. 1

Just posted this song in the "Song Game" thread. Always loved it. Great band backing Junior Wells with Buddy Guy on guitar and Jack Meyers on bass. Not an anti-war tune as such but some of it seems to be a response to some of the anti-war sentiments of that era: "You might not have no respect for your country darling, but that's why, that's why, I'm singing this blues."

Sounds like Junior really had a brother over there and this was coming from the heart. Can't beat the feeling of that guitar and bass backing up those lyrics... Not to mention the harp work.

You know, Everyone was laughing at the Blues Brothers. They were one of the best of S&L. But on a serious note those two guys did more to revive Chicago Blues & Blues in general than anyone has done in a long time. They reintroduced a lot of the old time greats Men & Music. Something that couldn't have been done by anyone else. I would love to see a Belushi & Aykroyd/Blues Brothers Revival. 8) 8)

Isn't Aykroyd a principal in the 'House of Blues' organization? I also regret the lack of his radio
broadcasts on commercial stations.

Wiki sais: The original "House Of Blues" first opened in Cambridge MA. on November 26, 1992. The venture was financed by, Aykroyd/Aerosmith/Paul Shaffer/River Phoenix/Jim Balushi & Harvard, U. The original has since closed. There are several others that still remain open and that Aykroyd is still active in the organization. 8)

----Danny,

Paul Shaffer....you want an idea of how one musically gifted dude can diversify a career, you need to look at his work product. Always bear in mind that appearances can be deceiving...Aerosmith...The Stones....are still business people.

Wow, Talk about appearances being deceiving. Is there anything that (Paul Shaffer) dident do? The man was everywhere. I was totally unaware that he was so closely involved with S&L, and really surprised to here of his squabble with Balushi over Gilda Radner's music. Secretly in love with Radner, thats a new one. I guess I always knew the man was good. What I dident know was how good, lol. I think this is another instance where a great talent has gone relatively unrecognised, for the sake of the "STAR". for anyone who's interested you can check him out on wiki. This is great stuff. Thanks for the tip Doc. 8)

Dang, Paul Schaeffer does have some talent. I knew that all along but he sure has done a lot!

I keep hearing his French accent from Blues Brothers 2000 whenever I think of him...
