I've been looking for a Fender promo pic from the 50's or 60's where a beautiful girl from that era is holding a Stratocaster in front of her naked body. I have been telling a photographer friend of mine about this pic forever. I saw it in a book somewhere. This friend photographs my guitars and many models. He likes the idea and may have people who would like to recreate this photo using one of my Strats. I really want to show it to him so he knows exactly what I am talking about. Has anyone seen this thing?

I'm guessing it's guitar body up?

I googled "1960s Fender Promo" and this was the closest thing.

Thats not it but that is way cool. I love that the woman is wearing jaguar print nylons. She should be holding a Jaguar guitar.

The pic I'm looking for is black and white.

It was forever ago that I saw this pic but as I recall she is sitting on the ground with the body on the floor. You can see her curves just behind the curves of the strat.

I seriously doubt it was actual "Official" Fender promo art. Leo Fender would not have approved it. More likely it was an independent art shot.

He liked ads like THIS:

He would never approve something like THIS:

However, who can say what CBS did in the late 60's. That was the "HAIR" era and then anything goes...

I checked 2 books, " Fender Stratocaster Curves Contours and Body Horns "
and " Fender The Golden Age " neither have a promo shot like the one you describe.
The closest is in the latter on pg. 220 but the lady is in a bikini, the Electric XII is not...

Hard to believe that any company outside Hef's jurisdiction would have used a female nude in a promo shot in the 50s or 60s, and especially a company that was trying hard in their advertising to counteract a "J.D." image with pictures of wholesome people have good clean fun with their electric guitars. If this photo is out there, I can almost guarantee it didn't come from Fender.

Maybe an album cover? (and not necessarily a rock cover, either... A lot of easy-listening covers from the day were pretty lurid, although usually in color.)

You are probably on the right path, the most likely would be an annual Playboy photoshoot or calendar of The Bunnies....

But if you look back in the old promo shots in " Fender the Golden Age Book " some of the promo shots are definitely double entendre. One which springs to mind is on page 211.
It's of a 66 candy apple red Tele, with just the caption...Fender Musical Instrument..then in bold caps " ACCESSORIES " with a background photo of a girl draped over the neck...Accessories Indeed...

I would not be surprised if such a promo advertisement from Fender existed, the 60's did have it's boundary pushing advertisements which resulted in some companies getting a lot of grief as well as notoriety...

Thanx for all your help. I will have to look for those shots you mentioned (the one with the bikini) that may actually be the one I am looking for. As I said before it was a real long time ago I saw this photo. What struck me was the curves of the woman and the guitar seemed to be identical. I have always said my Strat has the curves of a woman and thats one reason I love her so much. I think my wife is a little jealous when I call it a her.
