Today would've been his 89th.Vonnegut was a giant of a writer and had an especially keen sense of farce and irony and used it a lot of his writings. He would take extreme cases of racism and make them look completely ridiculous and indefensible.all the while making you laugh hysterically.I have read every one of his novels and collected works many times over and they are my favourite books in my vast and widely varied library. Happy Birthday Kurt, thanks for making us laugh at ourselves while all the time showing us how flawed we are.

I have never read one of his books. I just checked out an interview on YOU-TUBE, It was 5 or so years ago. He made a classic comment to the effect that he was planing to sue the tobacco companies for false advertising. They warned him in writing that the use of tobacco would kill him. But he said you see I'm Still Alive, they lied. :( If he hadn't smoked ho knows. R.I.P. Mr. Vonnegut.

I am not much of a reader, but I did read Slaughterhouse Five about 10 years ago. That was the last book I read.
