To me, Jeff Beck sounds like a maestro of classical music. High brow. Not stanky. 8)

No doubt about that. There's always someone better. As you mentioned, when someone is on top of their game, they're hard to beat. Albert Lee was doing it long before Clapton, he was always an inspiration, just like Clapton is an inspiration.

This performance was inspiring, at least for Steve Cropper, Duck Dunn and the rest of the band.

Really, he was one of my greatest inspirations, right after B.B. King, long, long ago.

OK...But there is no need to shout, could you please small cap it back...Thanks

quote by Gorgon....Not to get too down on Eric, but when you're just going through the motions, it's possibly better to retire and live off your millions and let folks remember you when you were in your prime.

Glad you didn't intend to " Get too down On Eric "

I'll disagree on the acoustic or as it is more commonly refered to as Unplugged.
I think the original version of Layla is excellent....
However the acoustic version is a step back in time to a Delta Blues format and is equally brilliant. Technique is different as on an acoustic, one must play counterpoint.

I don't think comparing Beck versus Clapton is a fair comparison.
They are both at opposite spectrums.
Clapton has always circumvented the traditional Blues format without stepping too far away.
Beck on the other hand has completely left any semblance of the Blues behind and has been ( for decades now ) in a fusion mode as far back as BBA.....

Just the album covers are descriptive enough....As to where the styles reside.
To deride one over the other just proves once more thst music is not an Olympic Sports Event.

BTW...There was a time not so long ago when people were wondering what had happened to Jeff Beck and when he was going to stop tinkering with the hot rods and return to wrenching the maple.....
