well my nephew got suspended from school for 2 days yesterday for giving a kid a "Gaddafi" aparently this is something kids are doing to each other for a laugh  when I asked him what a "Gaddafi" was. he said it is where you take a pencil, ruler or your hand (basically any object) and ram it in between someones butt cheeks really hard.

I don't understand how kids come up with this stuff

so parents be warned your kid may get a Gaddafi

I guess that kind of explains why some of our own younger forum mates act the way they do. No offence meant to you younger kids but that's comical.

About 20 years ago. My youngest, about 12 at the time, was suspended for hanging his jock out the bus window. I guess things haven't changed much.

And he got suspended for that? That's fairly common practice in my school. Pens and rulers are one thing, but files have also been known to be used for this purpose in the tech rooms. I don't do tech anymore...

A little horseplay amongst friends is all fine and good, but when somebody starts assaulting someone smaller or weaker, that's when I get angry...and don't tell me, "Well, they gotta toughen up and deal with it..."; see my story below.

When I was in the 8th grade, we had a coach/English teacher who required us to write our assignments in pen, with no markouts. The "hilarious" :| moron football player who sat behind me found it "enthralling" to grab my pen and mark across my paper when I was about halfway done, requiring me to start over on the assignments. He also marked on the back of my shirts, stole my pen, and thumped me in the back of the head regularly. He often accompanied these friendly gestures with the statement, "How do you like that?"

He was a real winner (pronounced "WEE-ner").

Since he was already as big as a grown man and I was a scrawny (at best) eighth grader, I couldn't do much in retaliation. But then I remembered that the element of surprise (used so often on my brother, who is six yearsl older and larger than I)...

One day he marked through my assignment again, and I snapped. I jumped up and grabbed the front of his desk, turned him upside down (flat on his back), threw the large Webster's Unabridged Dictionary at him (unfortunately, it missed him by an inch; I was hoping to make a dent in his head), jumped on top of him and slammed his head against the floor, all the while screaming, "How do YOU like it, JACKASS?!?!"

The coach, who knew me and liked me because I was always polite, was shocked to say the least. He pulled me off of the guy, took me out into the hallway and asked, "What in the *&^% just happened there?" I explained what had been happening all year long and how I had finally lost my cool. I also informed him that there was a mark over my paper, but I wouldn't be writing it over today.

Coach called the guy out into the hallway...He glared at me and said, "I'm gonna kick your *&^ after school today!"

Coach Cates said, "No, after school you'll be running laps. Also, before school you're gonna be running laps. Every day, you're gonna be running laps until I get tired of watching you run...and if you, or your friends, lay a hand on him, I'm gonna kick YOUR ^%$..."

For the next two months, the coach made him run until he either (1) puked or (2) fell down and couldn't get back up; this occurred before and after school. It was amusing to watch the coach, sitting in a chair, reading the newspaper and drinking a cup of coffee while the guy ran around and around the track. The guy missed playing in a couple of games, because he couldn't move enough to run. The coach also moved him front and center in the front of the class, and would ask him to answer the toughest questions, embarrassing the guy if he got the answer wrong (and he was not a good student).

I asked the coach a couple of weeks later why he was going so hard on the guy, and he said, "Because I was a skinny little guy in the eighth grade, too."

As I grew up, I have had to be cautious in how I treat bullies; I have often reacted much too harshly, embarassing or humiliating them for their actions. My wife has noted, "You bully the bullies, and that's not right, either..."

Coach Cates and I disagree with Lady Armadillo on that one...we think it's the perfect way to handle a bully.

I had a similar story, 8th grade as well. It ended when I challenged the 2 people to a fight and had me and 5 other people waiting and they never showed up. I guess they stop when they know they can't win. Regardless of how we did it, we stopped getting bullied. Also, this wasn't normal bullying, it was that pussified cyber bullying $@!&, so I did what my grandpa always told me to do. "Kick their $@! or scare the hell out of em."

Not to be a downer, but outside of Lady Armadillo, I did not find a friend as loyal to me as I was to them until I was thirty years old...and then, it was a guy twenty years my senior.

He's the drummer in my group, and he's one of the few people I can count on for anything. He's always honest and forthright, but not hateful...he said he had similar troubles as I did, and had only one friend in his life before me...and that guy died.

We both appreciate the troubles of being a creative person in an uncreative world, we both understand being "outsiders" due to religion/faith and personality quirks, and we both understand the weird things that make musicians "tick".

I hope you find someone like that earlier than I did, but in the meantime, just hang tough and be as friendly and nice to everyone who deserves your friendship. If they don't deserve your friendship, kick them to the curb...don't throw your pearls before swine.

Life is like an elevator. It's not the ups and downs that get you, it's the jerks...I hope you have a smooth elevator ride.

I was a horrible little bully in school. I made one guys life a living hell. To be fair, he wasn't too great with me and he was a lot bigger than me at that time. I can't remember how it all started, it's not important.
About fifteen years later, walking along the street, I bump into this fellow. Looking at him through adult eyes I suddenly feel incredibly sorry and ashamed for how I'd treated him. In tears, apologizing profusely, I drag him into the pub opposite and ply him with beer. Then onto a curry house, then onto a club. At least the last time he and I parted company we were both smiling and burping.

Still to this day I feel terrible about the way I acted as a kid. I was a horrible, antagonistic little sheet. If I could change one thing in my past it would be that. I just can't see what would have worked at that time though to make me stop.

my cousin was one of the bully's. one day he got the shitt kicked out of him and it still didn't change anything.... he is still an $@! hole. it seemed to make him meaner :? I myself was neutral throughout school. I was always the guy everyone came to when they needed something fixed or help with projects. it started with toys then radios and tvs then in high school I was in high demand when everyone started driving  allot of people still owe me one :D

I'm not sure what grade I'm in the equivalent year to, but all of that is pretty tame. Here's a selected highlights of things I know people who have done or had done to them
Hair set on fire with deoderant,
Scalpel stabbings,
Soldering iron burns,
Tea passed off as weed,
Phones, money and Ipods stolen.

And my school is quite civilised compared to others nearby.
